Vehicle Detail

On offer here is truly one of the most grand cars we have had for sale in the last year. This is a 1922 Studebaker "Big Six" Model EK 7 Passenger Tourer which has survived to this day in largely unrestored and beautiful condition! This car was just recently purchased from a local collector who purchased the car from the 3rd owner. This car is significant in that it was purchased by a Mr. James A Smith of China, Maine who, in 1966, sold the car in unrestored state to the famous Bill Harrah. At the time, Bill Harrah had the biggest and most grand collection of automobiles in the world and this car was a part of that collection as an example of a wonderfully unrestored car until September of 1981. Chances to own automobiles out of the famous Harrah collection to not come along often. This particular 1922 Studebaker runs to absolute perfection and drives very well. These cars were extremely powerful and durable cars in their day. In fact, Studebaker used to advertise that one would have had to spend twice the money in order to purchase another car as powerful (60HP at 2000RPM). The top speed of this particular model was a robust 60MPH in 1921 and the car was remarkably reliable. Studebaker actually found a car which had traveled a documented 475k miles delivering newspapers for the LA Times without a single engine rebuild. The factory purchased that car from the LA Times, drove it to Chicago, and used it in all their advertising. The factory eventually retired the car to the Studebaker museum in South Bend, Indiana. Quite an incredible feet when you consider the nature of cars back near the turn of the 20th century!! Over the last year, this car has really been brought to a new level of finish. Just a year ago the car received a new paint job in its original black color. In addition to that, the car was fitted with brand new upholstery on the main seats as well as the jump seats along with a brand new, custom produced carpet set. Overall, the car has been massively improved from a cosmetic standpoint but enough has been left original to give the purchaser confidence that they are purchasing a high integrity car. The gauges are still all original and show the wonderful patina which can only be earned over years and years of loving care by very few owners. In addition to the other improvements, the running boards have just been given a new battleship grey linoleum finish just as they were originally. In additional, all exterior nickle plating was redone last year to perfection! From a mechanical perspective, the car is absolutely fabulous. The car has its original vacuum fuel pump and it works fantastically along with all the other mechanical parts on the car. The generator was replaced with a newly rebuilt one just recently and the valves were ground around 6 years ago. Further speaking to the originality of this car, it still rides on an original set of tires even though they have had inner tubes and flaps added to ensure safe driving! The top and top bows are also original to this car along with the engine which is in clean but original condition. The car's engine compartment appears to be largely undisturbed since the time when the car was produced. All in all, what you have here is a beautiful, never fully restored car which has a documented ownership chain its entire life. This car has always been very well taken care of an belongs in the collection of someone who will care for it just as the owners before have cared for it. Not often to you see great open tourers come to market such as this one! Please call Frank Thompson at 913.269.6513 with any additional questions or to schedule an appointment to see the car in our Overland Park, KS showroom. We would be glad to show you this beautiful car!SELLING NO RESERVE .
