Vehicle Detail
1954 Chevy 3100 Pick Up Truck. A California, Bay Area Truck. 235 cu in engine and three speed. Heavy duty 16" rims and rear bumper. Very original and looks and inspects as same. Original rot free truck that has never been apart. Unusual history of non-use. In one family's possession since about 1972, ( the date on the old pink when I bought it). Was running 6 years ago but has not run. Turns over and will run with fresh gas, battery etc. New battery from 6 years ago. Original paint was dark green and had a red re-paint some years ago. 98,000 miles and some change, Mostly ORIGINAL. Exceptions are: replaced small air cleaner, no radio, an opening in the dash where it was, dust cover on flywheel missing. Three on the tree. 16" wheels and heavy Barden type bumper that looks to have been on it quite awhile. Spartan interior with older redone seat and door panels. All trim complete, original. Grill dented on passenger side, center. Center of the dash has an opening where a radio was. Appears that the truck was re-painted with most of the present dings. Faded peeling re-paint with scratches, scars. Original green paint peeking through. Authentic and interesting look that you can make no mistake about. Real. I detailed the truck about 6 years ago and have the photos of it rubbed out showing the body condition. The photos # 6 >> #24 show the truck around six years ago. Also have still photos from family with the son / V Vet, in it, after the red paint was added. The father was a carpenter and it had use as a work truck. Roof very straight and the bottom of the cab behind the doors, where drains are, rusted but NOT rotted. Very heavy gauge metal is up front strong and has no bondo or fillers that I could find. The truck is the same as when I bought it around six years ago. It has been outside and weathered since and these first 5 photos are the most recent. Interior is clean, surface rust on the floors but solid NOT rotted. I held out with plans to resurrect it my way but too many vehicles, projects, and old age is the writing on the wall... After a few beers with a good friend, who is helping me get organized, he convinced me to sell the truck and let someone give it a go and preserve or restore it. My feeling was that these are only old once and I was going to work with that. Get it running, re-do the brakes and new tires and it would be a solid driver. Currently on a non op with a clear title / pink slip. No back fees due. That said, if someone wants an original truck to restore, they will be the FIRST one to do it to this one. Having a number of old trucks over the years I felt that this was the best year for this body style, (only in production for a few years, fewer of them around). Thank you on this and I feel that I am being as truthful as I can in my presentation.
