Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is one 1970 Mercury Cougar Convertible with a 351W and an AOD transmission. I am selling it, because, although I drove it back and forth to work for more than a year, I am no longer driving it much and it just sits in the driveway. In the short time that I have had the vehicle, I have not done too much to it. I had a new convertible top put on. I extended the tail pipes. I added a new solenoid. I had the carburetor cleaned and the gas tanked steamed out. It still runs well and has some nice pick up and go, not to mention a great sound! Please note that if you ask me questions, I am NOT a car guy. I will try to get you the answers, but I don't know a lot about vehicles. The car was restored around 1994-95, and the restoration is definitely starting to show some wear. This was originally a Pennsylvania car so all of the fenders and floor pans have already been replaced and welded from the topside, not the bottom, so the floorpans look bad from the underside but the floors are SOLID. The trunk interior looks fine and is rust free. The previous owner rebuilt the rear suspension, replaced all 4 tires, replaced the FMX transmission with an AOD, replaced the starter with a late-model mini-starter, tinted the windows, replaced the radiator, added a transmission cooler, and replaced a taillight socket with a NOS original because it was having grounding problems. He also removed the entire front grill assembly and painted it flat black, including the XR-7 center grill. Although this car has an XR-7 interior and grill, it is NOT originally an XR-7. The flip up headlights do work and the sequential taillights work, although they are dim. What is wrong with the car? It needs paint and body work for sure, but nothing major. The top of the back seats need reupholstered, because of sun damage. The speedometer and fuel gauges are not accurate. The previous owner placed another set of gauges on the side of the steering wheel, but these do not work too well, and I never had them worked on. I just kept the fuel tank filled and guessed at my speed. There is no heat or air in the vehicle. The vehicle does have a battery drain. I have had three different mechanics look at it, and no one has been able to figure it out. I went ahead and had a battery switch placed under the hood next to the battery. This is a nice Cougar. The car gets a lot of attention everywhere I take it. It is not perfect or a show car. It looks great from a distance, but when you get closer you see the small dings. It is straight! If you're willing to put a little time and money into this car, you would have a fantastic Cougar Convertible! You are welcome to ask me any questions you need to. I have a 2005 Deluxe Marti report. You are welcome to email me at scott@grandfamily.net. This is an auction. Please, do not email asking me my reserve. I have researched this car's value, and I have invested some good money into it as well as the previous owners. AS IS - NO WARRANTY
