Vehicle Detail

1981 BMW 320i BARN FIND This vehicle is an all-original EXTREMELY RARE, BEAUTIFUL LOW MILEAGE, Collector's Car that has been well maintained and would make an easy show car, or full restoration project. I purchased this car from the original owner as a show car and only used this car only for local parades for our business! The car was located in a barn in Georgia when I purchase it where it was stored since the early 1990s. We have not driven this vehicle on the highway since we have owned it. The car has never been abused or wrecked. This car will simply be a great investment!! The car was titled its entire life in Georgia. Any BMW enthusiast knows the value of this rare car and how this vehicle will continue to appreciate in value. I showed this vehicle in a few car shows this summer and it gets a lot of attention. The car runs great and is operates reliably. It is GREAT ON GAS. It only needs a few minor issues addressed that I outline below to be maximized. The car has many new parts and copies of the receipts will be provided to the new owner. Some of the major new parts are: engine computer, water pump, thermometer, thermo time switch; cold start valve, muffler, engine fan, spark plugs, rotor and cap, air filter, BMW Center Caps, brake master cylinder, and many other parts. Miles: 143,700 Operation: The car runs fine but according to my mechanic should have a throttle body cleaning for maximum power. The brakes should also be serviced. Again, we have not used extensively, so we would recommend the buyer’s mechanic thoroughly go through the vehicle before a lengthy drive or daily use. Paint: The CAR WAS REPAINTED WITH A DRIVER QUALITY PAINT JOB THAT IS IN GOOD CONDITION!! It does have a few very small chips and dings that are really not noticeable from normal distance. Wheels: The car comes with the original BMW rally wheels with new BMW center caps that are in good condition. Engine and Transmission: The engine and automatic transmission are original and do not have any issues. Tires: I would recommend replacing the tires for extensive use or highway travel as they are in decent condition, but are older. Suspension: There are no issues with suspension on the vehicle. Interior: The interior is in excellent condition for a classic car that is over twenty years old. There are two small cracks in the dash around the center vents, which appears to be a design flaw. The front seats are original and are in great condition; they had seat covers installed over them for protection the entire time they owned it, so they are well preserved. The rear seat is in excellent condition, but there is a small tear on the top of the rear seat that appears to come from sun damage. The door panels are in excellent condition, but there is a crack on the door panel map holders on each door; the crack is covered with BMW motoring tape, so they are not noticeable. The carpet is in good condition and has no blemishes. The seat belts work fine. Radio: The radio is an aftermarket Alpine AM/FM/Cassette player that was installed in the 80s. Headliner: The headliner is in good condition and does not have tears or rips. Bumpers: The chrome bumpers and rubber covering on the vehicle are in good condition. The are no bends in the bumpers. Floors: The floor pans on the vehicle are solid. Windows: The car has manual windows that work fine. Doors: The doors open and shut well. Heater and A/C: The heater on the car works fine and the a/c belt has been disconnected; however, all of the components are in-tact. It appears the compressor just needs a belt and servicing for functioning. Windshield: The windshield on the vehicle does not have cracks Trunk: The rear cargo area has excellent carpet and is in great condition. The original spare tire is in the trunk and has never been used. The BMW tool set is also in great condition. Lights: The headlights, marker lights, and tail lights work fine. Horn: The horn is not working now. I have not had time to diagnose if it is just a fuse or other issue. Many of the issues I find with this car needs are very common for these BMWs and are very simple repairs. As noted above, the major issues have been addressed with new parts and repairs. Some of the issues I would address with the car: 1. Have the throttle body cleaned to maximize the power of the car. The car seems to have a sluggish response that is probably caused by the dirty throttle body. 2. The tires should be replaced for highway travel as I stated earlier, 3. A portioning valve for the brakes needs to be replaced; we replaced the Master Cylinder for the brakes, but the portioning valve also needs replacement. Again, although I outline the issues, this car has, in most cases, the parts are very inexpensive and simply repairable. ALTHOUGH THIS CAR IS NOT PERFECT, IT IS STILL IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED, AND IS IN FAR BETTER CONDITION COMPARED TO OTHER 320s I HAVE SEEN. My intent is to represent this vehicle well in my description in hope that a new owner will give this car the due love that it needs. I would prefer to sell this vehicle to a BMW enthusiast that knows the history, value, even the quirks of these vehicles. As with all older vehicles, vehicle lovers may have different perspectives on the condition of vehicles. I encourage any interested bidder to inspect the vehicle in-person before bidding or buying.
