Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1931 Ford Model A Ford 5 window Coupe with rumble seat, dual side mounted spare tires, cowl lights, quail radiator cap. Mechanically, this car is stock original. Older ground up restoration. Original stock 4 cylinder Model A engine, 3-speed transmission and drivetrain was completely, professionally rebuilt. Almost every part was disassembled, cleaned, restored or replaced and reassembled 35 years ago. This Model A was a barn find. I've owned since 1975. Prior to me, it was stored in a barn and not driven between 1958-1975. I believe I'm the 4th owner. Body originally had a trunk and was painted Ford Andalusite blue. Has been in storage for most of the past 40 years I've owned it. I never completed restoration. ie: right side door window crank never installed, underside of floor in primer, cowl lights never hooked up, etc. After painting, I put it back together and just drove it "as is". 33 years ago I installed a new rumble seat interior but never replaced the main interior seats, headliner, kick panels and other details. Since putting back together this car has only been driven approximately 1,500 miles. This is a No Reserve (NR) auction. High bidder buys this car. What you see in the photos is what you get. Includes 2 boxes of spare parts, plus a chromed trunk frame and some of the original flat window glass. Spare parts are mix of both original and reproduction. CONDITION As you can see in the pictures, the car is showing its age. Last painted 33 years ago. Worked great the last time I drove it in a wedding and parade. A sweet sounding Model A. Last driven in 2010. Back then I changed the oil, coolant, greased the chassis, put a 6v battery in it and started right up as always. It ran fine until I put it back in the garage. Every year I turned over the engine using hand crank. Tight engine turns over nicely. Car is structurally sound, solid and in generally good shape. Some surface rust. 1980s filler is aging. Paint is peeling on the rumble seat door and elsewhere. Never been in an accident. Older restoration has typical condition issues common with an 84 year old car. Body is straight. In general, car needs to be gone through again. What you do depends on your plans for it. Brown naugahyde rumble seat kit by Lebaron Bonney complete with new springs and 3 wall panels cost almost $1,000. new. When I got the car going after re-assembly I threw a blanket over the original front seat, placed temporary panels on inside doors and just drove it as is. Plan was to eventaully take the car to LeBarron Bonney in Amesbury, Massachusetts to have a correct stock mohair interior installed but just never got to it. If you're looking to restore a Model A Coupe for yourself, or are a professional with a shop looking for a fixup turnaround flip what this car needs is new paint, complete interior upholstery, spare tire covers, detailing, etc. Mechanically, I believe it is sound. This car could be restored to stock, or the body used for conversion to hot rod, rat rod, street rod, or ...? If you're looking to buy a Model A and intend to either completely dismantle and re-restore, or partially disassemble and repaint all surfaces, this car would be a good fit. If your plan is to re-restore to stock original, you'll have a mostly complete car. This car was restored with original parts sourced from several 1930-31 Model A's, including the body, engine & transmission and chassis. Reproduction parts I sourced were Made in USA. I have not waxed, polished, pressure washed or tried to hide the flaws. Buyer should not place any value on the condition of the current paint and bodywork as I expect the next owner will disassemble, blast, sand down and repaint as you wish. Note: All four fenders are fiberglass. The 2 rear fiberglass fender each cost $275. The 2 front welled fenders each cost $450. The fenders are very well made and a close match to the original. Combined, the 4 fenders alone cost $1,500. Over the years I've had many people feel the fenders and say "Wow, they just don't make 'em like that any more..." Other than the fiberglass fenders, the rest of the car is stock Henry Ford steel. Has 6 wheels in total. The 4 tires and tubes on the ground were new in 1980. Although the tires are 35 years old they only have approx. 1500 miles use. The 2 spares in welled fenders are serviceable older used tires. After four decades of being its caretaker I'm selling because I have too many projects and not enough storage. Time has come to let it go. Please write and ask any questions you have prior to bidding. (860) 653-4822 Email: popularculture@hotmail.com TITLE / REGISTRATIONThere is no title.
