He was a life long Chevrolet collector and he was also a Technical Advisor for El Caminos and Chevelles with the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America (VCCA). Most of his collection was El Caminos and Chevelles, but he had two Caprices, and this beauty up for auction is one of them. KNOWN HISTORY OF THE CAR:The car was manufactured in the Los Angeles GM plant and delivered to the Brown & Hoeye Chevrolet Dealership in Mesa, AZ. The car was originally sold new at the dealership on November 25, 1965. The car was brought to Minnesota from Arizona as a collector car and has always been stored indoors and never driven during the Minnesota winters. The car was in unrestored, but very good condition at the time my dad bought it with 100k miles on it in 1987. It was obvious that the car had been well cared for since it was new. It was originally Ermine White, the color from the factory, and ran well, was straight, and rust free. There is a photo of it when he bought it, with 100k miles on it, with the photos. My dad kept the car in its original condition for many years, stored in a covered building and only driven occasionally in the summers. After he began restoration in around 2008, he became ill before the restoration was 100% complete and was unable to finish some of the details remaining. EXTERIOR AND BODY:It's a stunningly beautiful car and gets a lot of attention everywhere it goes. It has been re-painted the Madeira Maroon original factory color with base coat / clear coat for a mirror finish. It was painted disassembled so there are no tape lines. The car also comes with matching fender skirts, not currently on the car. The body is straight with great lines and good fit of the panels. All of the panels are original to the car. When you look at the glass and chrome it all looks good, with only a few barely noticeable imperfections in a few spots on the chrome. When you look under the car the floors are solid and don’t have any visible signs of damage, and the frame is solid. The interior floor of the trunk has not been restored and appears to have been partially spray painted at one time, possibly with surface rust beneath it, but the trunk floor seems solid. INTERIOR:The interior is done in black with the wood grain trim. It has the bucket seats and center console, a factory option for the sport coupe package. The bucket seats are covered in vinyl along with the rear seat and door panels, all in excellent condition. The driver's door has a small mark in the carpet along the bottom of the interior of the door, about 1" long and 1/2" wide, as well as another area on the carpet on that door where the carpet looks slightly frayed. Neither are very noticeable unless you are looking for them. I don't know if the carpet, headliner and upholstery in the car are original or if my dad had them re-done, but they are all in excellent condition. There is a working AM/FM push button radio, a rear seat speaker and the factory option rear antenna. It looks like a new speaker may have been installed through the trunk, based on how new the speaker and wires look from the trunk. It appears from the original window sticker we have for the car that it came with a push button AM radio, and that my dad found an original '66 Caprice AM/FM radio and had it installed. The original AM radio is in the trunk and will go with the car. The car may also be missing hooks on the interior of the car that were used for hanging hangers, etc. or some were there that weren't original, and were removed. There are very small holes on each side of the car in the headliner that appear to be in the area where those kinds of hooks are usually found. The console is the factory style with the T handle floor shift as well as a set of factory gauges. The dash is in overall very good condition, but has not yet been restored and shows normal wear and tear of a car with 102k miles. There are two small cracks in the vinyl on the top of the dash at the corners of the speaker (see photos), general wear and paint rubbed off on the steering column, and other small areas on the dash, as well as some areas around the door arm rests and door handles. The clock on the dash is not working. There is a note in the file on the car that says, "There is power to the in-dash clock" and another note that says, "Electric clock needs 3 in 1 oiling on each axle point." I'm not sure if that has been done. The car has many factory upgrades, including Air Conditioning, Telescopic and Tilt Steering Wheel, Power Windows, and a Power Driver’s Seat, all in working condition. The AC blows cold, but the car has been in storage and it may need a freon recharge to blow at its coldest. The passenger side power window goes up slightly slower than the other windows. MECHANICAL:Under the hood the car has a stock engine compartment and a matching numbers 396 big block. As far as we know, neither the engine nor the transmission have ever been rebuilt. The car seems to have no mechanical problems whatsoever - it runs beautifully. Brakes and suspension seem good. The tires, although not recently purchased, are like new, since the car has been in enclosed storage and rarely driven since the tires were bought. We have the original window sticker for the car, listing all of the factory upgrades (see photo, and listed here, as they were listed on the window sticker): VACUUM POWER BRAKEBLACK VINYL TRMTURBO HYDRA-MATICTINTED GLASSSIMU WIRE WHEEL CVDELUXE FR&RR BELTSREAR SEAT SPEAKERASTRO BUCKET SEATREAR ANTENNAERMINE WHITETILT TEL STRG WHLPOWER SEAT FOUR WAYPUSH BUTTON RADIOPOWER WINDOWS825X14X2 PLY WSWVINYL ROOF CV BLACK4 SEASON AIR CONDPOWER STEERING325 HP V8 TURBOJET If there is any additional information about the car you need, or you would like to arrange to inspect the car, or if there are any additional photos of the car you would like, please contact me. Below is a video with a brief tour of the interior and exterior of the car, then shows the car starting up and driving away, and then driving toward the camera and returning. (The small mark you see in the video on the passenger side front fender isn't a chip in the paint - it was an insect walking on the car.)
