Vehicle Detail
Hello, this is a 1999 VW EuroVan which, up until recently, has been a reliable and beloved family car and awesome vacation van. The last time it started (about 6 weeks ago) it was running great, transmission shifted smoothly, no check engine light. I bought it about 6 years ago with 157,000 miles on it. I know the previous owner had it serviced regularly at a Volkswagen dealership--he had replaced the exhaust system, among other things, along with regular maintenance. I have had regular oil changes with Mobil 1 synthetic. I have just recently (about 2 months ago) changed the oil (Mobil 1 synthetic) and filter, along with new transmission fluid and filter. I put in a new alternator (3 months), starter (5 months), and battery (about 8 months ago). I've had the brakes replaced and the brake fluid changed, new outer tie rod ends, ball joints, and a torsion arm link replaced, all in the last couple of years, along with a couple of emissions-related parts. The tires are good, and are all the proper C load rating, which are highly recommended on this vehicle. And now the bad news: Car will not start. Does not turn over. Will need to be towed or shipped. Some rust on gas cap door. Numerous scratches and small dents consistent with vehicle age. Small leak in exhaust pipe behind muffler. Sunroof leaks sometimes in a heavy downpour--I have tried to seal it with limited success. Some dark stains on carpeting near front wheel wells due to water seepage in heavy rain. I have not had the car detailed, so there are some dirty/soiled areas on the carpeting. I have not been able to wash the outside of the van recently, but it got a thorough hand washing and waxing several weeks ago. It has been parked under a tree for a while, so it has picked up some dried leaves. For the mechanically inclined, or the EuroVan afficanado looking for a project, this vehicle could be resurrected and should still have a few good years left. It's hard for me to let it go, but it is beyond my ability to fix it, and I just don't have the time. It may need a new starter. I have been told it may need a new flywheel, or a torque converter, as the teeth which engage with the starter gear are worn down. Also, van comes with Thule roof racks and keys for locking/removing them. They do not appear in the pictures because I took them off to wash the van.
