Vehicle Detail

Reluctantly selling my 1969 Camaro due to a recent purchase of a GTO I've been chasing for years. If I had the room I would keep it; I bought it as a summer driver to enjoy the Michigan weather, and it has been a lot of fun to cruise around town. The Camaro started life as a base (X44 trim) car, painted Olympic Gold with a black standard interior. Options include power disc brakes, console, and that's about it. It was cloned into a Super Sport back in the 1970s. I believe it was originally a 327/210hp with a Saginaw 4-speed, but I have no way of proving that. Today the car has a nice 400 SBC with a Muncie 4-speed and 8.5" 10-bolt posi. The engine has a set of aftermarket iron heads, a hotter cam, a Victor Jr intake and a Holley carburetor. Ignition is handled by an MSD distributor and 6AL ignition box. Previous owner built the engine so I cannot tell you the specs, but it is very healthy and runs great. He clearly sunk a lot of money into this part of the car. The paint and bodywork were done in the late 1980s and are therefore nearly 30 years old. NOS GM quarters, rear wheel housings, tail panel, fenders, and rockers were installed. The floor pans were repaired. Frame rails are orginal and look great. Oddly, the trunk floor was NOT repaired properly, perhaps because no trunk floor reproduction was available then? As you can see, there is a layer of body filler over what I assume was a rusted trunk pan, and there is one hole at the forward end of the RH fuel strap brace. The shock towers have also been patched as you can see from the pictures. It's all functional, and I guess it's what was done before reprodution sheet metal was available. The paint itself is very straight and still shines well considering it was painted when Reagan was in office. In case it isn't clear from the pics, it is a deep metallic blue with a silver stripe and a black tail panel (like the SS396 cars). From a few feet away it looks nearly flawless. There is some solvent popping and hazing on the roof and decklid that I tried to capture in the pics. There are a few localized spots that have blistered: a few spots around the rear window, on the forward part of the passenger quarter panel near where it meets the rocker, on the rocker pinch welds where the paint has chipped off, and on the drip rails and just adjacent to the rain gutter. There are a few chips in the paint; keep in mind this is 30 year old paint. The chrome on the bumpers and emblems is showing its age, and the original glass has a few chips and sanding scratches, and the windshield wipers have worn the familiar pattern into the original windshield. The stainless trim around the windows has dings and could use a polish. The wheels are very nice Weld Draglites from the early 1990s. Front tires have some dry rot and should be replaced if you are driving any long distances. Interior is in good shape and has what looks like the original seat upholstery with a few small tears from age. I installed a reproduction dash cluster and radio delete panel. Gas gauge reads over-full all the time, but the rest of the gauges work fine. Dash pad has some curled areas and could stand to be replaced, but looks OK. Previous owner had a gauge mounted through the factory speaker grille so a few of the perforations should be straightened. Previous owner also installed a Hurst Super Shifter, which required modifying the console and floor hump. You can see the shifter poking through the driver's side of the console base. I realize I am getting into some pretty small details here, but I want the buyer to be 100% happy with the car even if I am overly harsh with my description. The Camaro runs and drives fine considering it's a 46 year old car. It looks like the idler arm and some bushings have been replaced, and it has a larger-than-stock front sway bar. There is a vibration that happens around 70mph on the freeway which I'm guessing could be corrected with the pinion angle. I have owned a few first-gen Camaros - some big blocks, some Z/28s, and this one is easily the most fun to drive around town. If I wasn't out of space, I would keep this one as a fun summer driver. It gets WAY more attention than my stock restored cars do. It is not a perfect car - far from it - but it isn't priced like one either. I encourage you to ask questions before bidding. Send me a message through Ebay and leave your phone number so I can call you back. TERMS OF SALE: Winning bidder must pay a $1000 non-refundable deposit via Paypal or USPS money order and I must receive the deposit within 48 hours of the auction's end, no execptions.
