Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a great-looking, solid, and rare Automatic 1973 VW Westfalia Camper bus. This bus basically underwent a full mechanical rebuilt nine years ago, including engine, transmission, brake system, steering system, fuel system, and charging system, and has travelled less than 5,000 miles since the work was performed. I have receipts for all the work performed, as detailed below. It does not have any rust issues to speak of; a few minor bubbles under the paint here and there (which could simply be paint issues), but no apparent rust-through. It was originally all white; the yellow paint was done at same time as the mechanical work. It runs beautifully, but the automatic transmission just failed and will need to be rebuilt. These VW Automatic busses are a pleasure to drive, and open the door to drivers who are not comfortable or otherwise able to operate a manual transmission. They are hard to find. IT IS NOT CURRENTLY A DRIVER. It is priced accordingly... this would be a ten-thousand-dollar-plus bus if turn-key. Clear title in hand, matches VIN exactly. This is a very nice bus, a genuine Westie, and a heck of a bargain if you do the math. You may call me at 360-936-9257 with any questions you may have. Details as follows: Exterior/Interior -1973 Westfalia Camper Bus-New camper canvas-Nice overhead sleeping cot, and removable front transverse-mounted "kid cot"-Nice interior including rear seat which folds to full bed, jump seat, dining table, cabinetry/storage, and prep shelf-Nice original front seat upholstery and door panels-Side door rebuilt, operates as new-Excellent glass throughout, camper vent windows operate well-Nice looking exterior, body overall straight in appearance; paint not perfect but shiny-Original steel wheels, original chrome hub caps, good radial tires-Upgraded sound system Mechanical -Engine rebuilt to 1800cc, complete comprehensive rebuild w/receipts-Rebuilt dual carburetors-Transmission rebuilt in 2006 including new "hard" parts (currently failed, requiring rebuild)-Replaced front end ball joints, tie rod ends, and wheel bearings-Replaced rear CV joints-Replaced shock absorbers front and rear-Rebuilt steering column and gear-Four wheel alignment-New brakes front and rear, including new rotors and drums-Parking brake rebuilt-Fuel tank cleaned and sealed, replaced sending unit, fuel pump, and lines-Replaced battery, alternator, starter, and voltage regulator-Engine tuned, easy starts, runs great This bus was completely gone through to be a reliable weekend getaway camper, and was literally a turn-key driver up until one week ago; the friction parts began to demonstrate wear, and the transmission failed. To restate, the vehicle is NOT currently drivable; it needs the transmission gone through. I have spoken to several mechanics about it, and they all said the transmission will need new friction parts (clutch bands and brake band) and a thorough cleaning to remove all contaminated oil. Essential, a "wear part" rebuild, not a "hard part" rebuild, which was already performed. Clear title in hand, matches VIN exactly for inspection, export, etc.. Please be prepared to remit payment in full within 3 days of auction's end via deposit into my Bank of America account, or bank-to-bank wire transfer. Shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer; I will make myself and the vehicle available for transport on short notice. While every effort is being made to describe the vehicle as accurately as possible, it is in fact a 42-year-old classic, and therefore being sold as-is, without warranty or guarantee expressed, written, or implied. You may call me at 360-936-9257 with any questions you may have.
