Vehicle Detail
1969 GS California - 455 Stage 1 engine, TH400, 12 bolt posi ('72 Chevelle) w/3.31 gears. “Body is tagged as 1968” using a '68 superstructure (1/4's, roof, ect.)After 33 years I am selling my first car. Purchased in May 1982, I drove this car everywhere, and it followed me to the ARMY. When I went to Germany, it was stored. But storage was outside, and the bottom side started to rust. Restoration started in 1992 and after teardown, a soft frame and the entire underside were discovered to be beyond repair. So this is why the body is a ’68. A donor car was located from Florida in 1995, silver 1968 Special Deluxe. Disclosing this up front, my body skills required a different body to be used. About 60% of the car is original 1969 parts.Body off rebuild: Body was removed from the frame. Frame was sandblasted and painted with red oxide primer and top coated with semi-gloss black. Next was the stainless fuel line and new brake lines. New rear springs were added. A PST front suspension kit was used. Serviced & installed the 12 bolt Chevelle rear end, added KYB shocks. I also got a deal on boxed control arms and sway bar from a 1972 442, along with the power disc brakes. All new body bushings (Year One)Body - Painted GM Code 55, turquoise mist (original color of my '69). This was done in 1995 (20 year old paint). The body is showing its age (built April 1968). The lower rear quarters have some old (70’s I think) body work that has bubbled and the outer wheel houses need attention in the same area. Floors are all GM and in very nice shape. This is still a presentable car. Send me a PM for a full rundown on the body.Interior - early 1969 bucket seats (side latch, no headrest), full length console, new carpet April '15, still has the '68 door panels, headliner was replaced in 2000, no rips or tears, dash is very nice (non-A/C car). Has a '68 AM radio, non-functional. Front seat covers are from Year One.Engine - “TR”, Stage 1 455 from 1971, came out of a high horsepower Buick Centurian (codes out to a GS 455 Stage 1 in the book). Full working RAM AIR set-up is in place. Block was line bored and lightly honed and new rings & bearings were installed. Builder felt that the motor only had about 40,000 miles on it as there was no ridge in the cylinders. We used the stock Stage 1 cam & heads. New timing set and fully rebuilt front cover/oil pump installed. Carb is a Holley 750 (3310). I also sourced an HEI to replace the points distributor. I have put maybe 20-25,000 miles on the car since I built it (overestimating I'm sure).Transmission - TH400 from a '73 Rivi. Stock trans, no kit. Prior trans was a 4 speed. Engine does have a bushing in the crank to go back to manual. All manual trans equipment is gone. Wheels & Tires - Centerline 1 rims and Firestone 500 tires. Low miles on both, tires still have the "nubbies" on them. Extras - again, send a PM for the full list. 1972 GS455 engine (heads were done 10 years ago, still in the shop bags), TH400, '68 8.2 rearend (2.56 or 2.73 open), brackets, timing covers, new Elgin Stage 1 cam. interior parts, exterior parts, trim, a pair of inner fenders, '67 430 intake, exhaust manifolds................If it's BBB it goes with the car. You are getting 33 years of collecting parts; some are excellent, some are very nice and some is usable. But everything goes with the car. Remember that this is a used vehicle, she is not perfect, but very presentable. was all redone 1995-2000 and then enjoyed in the summer months, no winter driving. All the hard to find parts are there. New parts this spring: Rear brakes, vinyl top, carpet set, battery, trans fluid & filter
