Vehicle Detail
We are selling our beloved Volkswagen Vanagon full- camper Westfalia, as the time has come to "lighten up" in anticipation of retirement (and the fact that we have two of these VW's!!!) This car has been well-loved by both owners, the first being a very conscientious Firefighter who used the car as intended, as a camper and a spare bedroom for the grand kids when they visited. I bought it to use as my Nurse Mobile, hauling several bags of nurse gear from place to place as I did transport nursing. My little Westy never once failed me....3 am in the morning, out on a call, never worrying if I would break down. And I can't be remiss in telling you that on my days off, this car hauled rose bushes from Home Depot, a small couch from the antique store and a hundred pound greyhound...ever present. All of the doggy-ness is gone- we reupholstered both the front captain's chairs (both seats swivel around to face the rear) and the rear bench seat. The new upholstery is from Sew Fine, which is the best fabric available to replace the bullet-proof fabric that came with (and lasted until now) this vehicle. In anticipation of selling the other Westy and keeping this one, we had her painted with high quality LP paint the original yellow/cream color in April. This car has never been in an accident, but it had a few dings and scratches from being on earth since 1985. It looks beautiful now! The bumpers are both straight and have new end caps and rubber strips. The windshield and windshield gasket was replaced right before the paint job as it had a crack in it that was beginning to grow. New front and rear windshield wipers in place. On the exterior, all of the caps, hatches, decals and antennae, etc. are all in place. The tires all have about 65 percent on them. They are the proper light truck tires. The mileage is pretty much estimated at 180k.The speedometer is not accurate-reads high. The odometer does not work at all. The fuel indicator is right on. I don't know what is wrong with the odometer....could be an easy fix. This van came to me at about 121K and it was broken at that time. This car neither drips nor burns oil. Everything in the interior works. Lights all work.Front and back great heater. All the camping gear including the three-way fridge works well. The stove and sink appear hardly used. Carpet is not new but not worn out. I put heavy rubber mats in the front and the back so there really isn't much carpet showing. Original speaker covers trimmed to fit modern speakers and new winders don't hit the speakers!!! All curtains have been freshly laundered and there is a screen that fits the hatch for an open air camping experience. The tent has the typical crush injury from improper folding (watch this in the future!) but has been repaired and the rest of the tent is fine. The tent screen, though adequate, could be repaired if you so desire. Engine was rebuilt by aforementioned Firefighter in about 2008. It has a later model transmission that was installed when the clutch was replaced. This work was done by Pete at San Diego Westy. Any other replacement parts (interior and trim) have all been purchased from Go Westy, so you know they are a perfect fit. As I said, this was the car we were going to keep and I would not hesitate to continue to drive her or to give her to the kids! This has been a daily driver and has never given me any problem except for the occasional honk and exuberant peace sign from other cult members. Whoever gets her is getting a piece of my soul!!! Good luck and happy bidding!!!!!
