Vehicle Detail
For your consideration, I am listing my 1986 Porsche 928S (not 86.5) with clean carfax, original keys and owners manual! Not only is it getting very difficult to find a 1986 MY, but add to that a VERY rare manual transmission (5-speed dogleg gearbox). 32V 4-Cam ALUMINUM V8 motor sounds awesome with the existing exhaust. Timing belt, new waterpump, and Portensioner installed 1.5 years ago, and less than 2K miles on the change. Clean car, and clean title. Not perfect, and needs stuff here and there, but is a great car, and a good runner. It's much easier to find manual transmission on the earlier 16V (1977-84) cars, but exceedingly difficult in the '85 and later years as Porsche more aggressively marketed the vehicle as a GT car as the years went on. Add to this that the 32V motor was only offered in 85 and 86 with this body style (S2/S3) with very limited production numbers relative to other car makes/models. I can't say enough how exceptionally rare this combination and year is. Do not get hung up on miles. You'll spend at least DOUBLE the reserve price for a lower mileage unit. Porsches are driver's cars - not designed for just sitting in a garage. You'll be hard-pressed to find a similar condition 928S of this era (85-86) with a manual gearbox for the reserve. Like most every 928 of ANY year you will find for sale, there are items which need attention. Dash lights do not work, and several of the gauges are inoperable (including odometer which stopped working at ~155K). The AC and heater controls are not functional. Recently, the passenger side window-switch stopped working. This car would do best with an owner who understands the Porsche 928, and all of its little quirks. For the competent mechanic familiar with these cars, these are fairly minor repairs. Transaxle fluid changed with Royal Purple one year, and ~2000 miles ago. Manual override switch installed for the electric fan. Interior is nice, but the dash has the usual cracks in the usual places (which have been repaired, but are still visible), and the drivers side seat is in need of re-upholstering. Headliner is in excellent condition, but there is some warping where the rear seem meets the headliner (as shown in one of the headliner pictures) Despite these imperfections, the condition of the interior overall is quite good. Exterior - the (re)paint is of marginal quality (some runs, scratches, and other paint imperfections) at best, but does look quite clean/nice when it is cleaned and polished. The car could use a repaint down the line, but it still looks good. There are some minor dings on the roof, but other than that, the car is very straight (there is a ding on the passenger door). Front bumper needs to be repainted, as the paint is failing. Chin spoiler is cracked as well Overall, the exterior condition is good, and will easily impress the casual observers (in my experience). Car gets a lot of compliments on how clean and straight it is, even up close, just don't expect a new/show car finish. All 928's are wonderful machines (be it the 16V or 32V units), but the 32V cars are getting exceedingly difficult to find, and consequently have gone up in value considerably (and will likely continue to do so as more and more become un-roadworthy from neglectful owners). Those who are familiar with 928s will understand that the Porken tensioner (aka Portensioner) is a huge upgrade over the factory unit. It is essentially an Audi-derived self adjusting unit modified specifically to work with the Porsche 928 32V cars. The 16V cars (with the exception of the Euro models) are not interference designs, but the 32V cars are, so upkeep on the tensioner is especially important on them. This unit (Portensioner) is well known within the 928 community as being vastly superior to the original Oil-Filled OEM unit. Most folks (including myself) get tired of checking belt tension every few months with the original OEM units, so the Portensioner is a great enhancement to the original design. This was Porsche's flagship model, and was more than 50K in 1986, putting it at the very close to the top of the Porsche range. Only the 911/930 Turbo was more expensive, and not by much (within a few thousand dollars). The last of the hand-built Porsche cars! This car just kicks a@@, but keep in mind that it is still almost 30 years old. This vehicle is sold AS IS/WHERE IS so, please feel free to ask all of your questions about the car prior to bidding. I am pretty familiar with this vehicle, the Porsche marque, and the 928 in general, so I encourage interested folks to ask questions they might have about this car. *********************************************************************************************************************************** THE FIKSE FM10 WHEELS IN TWO OF THE PICTURES ARE NOT FOR SALE AND DO NOT COME WITH THE VEHICLE.
