Vehicle Detail
for sale is a 1982 300SD Mercedes. This is a solid, good running, quick starting, dependable get you there and back Mercedes. It's not a concourse condition car if that's what you're looking for. Has some minor dings and scratches on the exterior including some rust around the right taillight. Nothing major and the underbody is in good shape. The interior has normal wear for a 35 year old vehicle with about a 1/4 mil on it. Some of the wood trim is starting to de-laminate but that doesn't affect it's performance level. I always keep my vehicles mechanically sound, safe, and mechanically reliable. This one is no exception. Recent work within last 8 months include: new upper control arm and lower ball joints, new tie rods, new drag link, new steering pivot bushings, new left front caliper and rotor and valve adjustment. All the rest of the brake calipers have been replaced over the last 3-4 years as well as the rotors and pads. The tires were replaced about 2 1/2 years ago and I've put less than 20 K on them. The wheels are the upgrade 15" flat face ones. Also has a good condition full size spare. Major work over the last 6-8 years; Changed the transmission out with a good lower mileage unit (has around 100 K less than car and shifts fine-no slipping); new motor mounts and shocks; new tranny mount; new flex discs ( front and rear); new carrier bearing and dust seal; new exhaust pipe from turbo back about 3 feet with new style flex section; K&N air filter. Work that still needs to be done: Lower inner control arm bushings need to be replaced (included with spares) possibly the front sub frame bushings as well. Car rides down the road just like a Mercedes should and holds the line for miles with no pulling left or right. The only time you'll notice the worn control arm bushings is at low speeds around town while on and off the brakes. Other problems that are more a minor nuscience than a problem are: Car fires right up first time as it should but sometimes doesn't shut off as it should--vacuum leak somewhere that's keeping the vacuum valve on the pump from shutting it down. If you hook a hand held vacuum pump to the valve it shuts off fine. There's a mechanical lever that's clearly marked STOP that you push and it shuts off--you have to pop the hood to do this---and yes, I have tried the vacuum valve on the steering collumn and that's not the culprit. Other problem with starting occurs after about 150-200 miles of driving when you go to restart the car there's nothing----no click, no hum. Just like the battery is stone dead. Solution is to pop the hood and using a pair of good sized needle nose pliers, touch the across the terminals that go from terminal block down to the starter motor and it turns over and fires up just like normal. I believe the problem is in the neutral safety switch and I've included a new one with all the spares that goo with the car. Once the car cools off a bit, the problem disappears. These problems are more annoying, than a big concern. It's not a hard job to change the switch--I'm just getting to old to lay on my back and do this anymore. Car has a trailer hitch on it and I just towed my trailer back from NY with it.(About 1500 lbs.) ---with no problems I have all the adaptors to go to 4 pin flat trailer cables. Has a full cover that comes with it There's lots of spares that come with it: Extra front rotor, assortment of used but still good brake pads, transmission filter and gasket, new transmission mount, 2 valve cover gaskets, 1 new and one used neutral safety switch, 1 new oil cooler line, 1 new main filter, pair of lower inner control arm bushings. Like I said it's not a concourse condition car but a solid dependable daily driver and it is a Mercedes. What they term in the collector world a 20-20 car. Twenty feet away and twenty miles an hour it looks fine. Just the engine and tranny alone are worth over $1000. Any questions feel free to contact me trough e-bay or call me at 386-775-1075 (home) or 386-747 4079 (cell). Car has a clear title and it's good to go--plate it and drive it away.........
