One of the nicest R65's from 1986 you are going to find outside of a museum! Just look at the pictures. I have owned her since 2000 when I bought her then from the original owner in Raleigh, NC for my girlfriend. I bought her then with a little over 14k miles, now she is just shy of 44k. Mileage is still changing since I ride her one day a week. When I lived in the Raleigh area, she was maintained by Pete Bombar at Bombar's Beemers, over the last 5 years in Al by Terry's Two Wheel. If you know anything about old airheads, you know both of these guys. My girlfriend has passed, I have moved to AL, and now it is time to part. Personally I have always changed by own oil every 1500 miles with Castrol GTX 20w-50, all other services done by the shops who know better than I. The paint is in great shape and shines close to new. I minor scratch here and there, but nothing that would want to make me restore her. Everything is operational with no obvious issues, a few concerns are outlined below. She runs 75mph all day long at 5000 RPM with plenty of head-room to go. I am 5'10 240lbs! What a nice little cruiser! And not like today's typical BNW's where you need at least a 34" inseam to put both feet flat on the ground. 650cc, 5 speed, factory hard cases with keys, and a small Street Shield. Other than the shield and a set of soft handlebar grips, all original! There are four things I want you to be aware of. 1) she fell over on me once in the garage and there is a small dent in the top right of the tank. Can probably be easily removed, that is what Terry told me with no need to repaint. I can barely see it and hard to show in the pictures. Look at the one with the note I put in, you may have to blow it up. 2) She really could use a set of progressive shocks in the front. She is getting a little spongy during breaking and shakes a little at 45mph if you let go of the handle bars. However, no leaks in the shocks and the fork oil was changed about 3k ago. 3) The tires are in good shape, but are about 8 years old. I don't put more than 500 miles a year on her (have an R100R that I mostly ride) and due to age alone I'd recommend replacing them. Though I do not see any cracking. And 4) I messed up the idle a little by trying to adjust the choke cables. Not bad, but she has idled better when someone who knows what they are doing adjusts her. I recommend that you come and have a look at her in person prior to bidding. I can aid in delivery for up to 100 miles from Lincoln, AL at a cost of $1 per mile. She can be a little stubborn when hot to shift down into first from natural, but that is why call it a she. You know! My 93 R100R is identical, so I don't think there are any issues.just gold ol' airheads. The seat is original and not a cover, try finding thionyl a 29 year old beauty!
