Built by a Craftsman with fine attention to every minor detail both in and out! The Ferrari GTO 250 needs no introduction to Automotive Enthusiasts. It is equally famous for its dominance in the International racing scene as it is for its astronomical eight figure values. The most recent sale of Serial Number 3851 GT was $38,115,000.00 in Monteray, California ....which broke an all-time auction record. The GTO is perhaps the ultimate classic Ferrari. The design of the GTO was instantly and universally admired. Its appeal has withstood the test of time, and it is considered to be the best-looking Sports Car of all time. GTO stood for Grand Turismo Omologato or Grand Touring Homologated. Today they are among the world's most historically significant and valuable cars. They were made from 1962-1964 and only 39 Coupes were produced. Today the majority of the GTO's have long since been acquired by sophisticated Collectors and are thus out of the reach for most people, even Ferrari enthusiasts. As a matter of interest for those contemplating building a similar project, GTO style reproduction bodies like this are no longer manufactured .... they just cant be bought for any price! That said, this is in fact a TRIBUTE....it is NOT a real Ferrari GTO 250!! The Ferrari Logo's and Emblems on this car are aftermarket reproduction parts and affixed to the car in the same manner in which many of the Original and Authentic 250 GTO's were badged and branded. They are not used to imply the car is in fact an Original GTO!! This particular reproduction is an outstanding example. While some other replica bodies (Shelby Cobra's et al) continue to be manufactured, are endless in sheer number and often assembled in a garage as a father and son project, this tribute bodied Ferrari is very special. It was built by a true enthusiast who over a period of 20 years he painstakingly assembled three examples of these cars. His wealth of knowledge and experience is clearly seen in the quality and detail that went into producing this beautiful car. To give this small block power plant a more authentic, period correct look, feel and response it was professionally mated and fed by 8 Vintage Weber 44 IDF short stack carburetors that were finely tuned for spirited performance! When this car roars to life, the sound is incredible, people gather around from a block away....and it brings back memories of LeMans! The subtle touches of the Original Style equipment is so well done. The 5 Speed Manual transmission has the correct, refined, and designed style Ferrari gated shifter. It sits on Borrani Dayton Knockoff Style Wire Wheels. The headers and exhaust ends with the period correct style Ferrari Exhaust tips. It has Power Assisted Disc Brakes and given its weight has great stopping power. The Body is extremely correct in its interpretation of the Original GTO style with the proper bodylines and authentic style scoops and air intakes. It has the correct style hardware and small trim nuisances that very few of these replica's have. The Chassis was lengthened to give it a similar length wheelbase as the Original. The Interior has the correct style Crackle Finish dash and European style gauges. The Bucket Seats are of a correct European style that gives the interior the proper look and feel. The diamond material design on some of the interior panels resembles the classic style appearance of many of the GTO's. In summary it was a labor of love, research and talent and its evident throughout! This is by no means even close to what a real Ferrari GTO 250 represents and by offering this tribute we certainly do not wish to discredit one of the finest automobiles manufactured. That said, aside from owning a 38,000,000 Dollar Original you can have the next best thing....an affordable tribute to the Original. According to Chris Harvey, the 250 GTO was the last of the purebred racing cars that could be driven with any degree of satisfaction on the road. With a Ferrari 250 GTO you could do just about anything, conquer the world at LeMans, storm alpine passes in the Tour de France, or just dawdle down to your local school with your child in the passenger seat. This example is completely street legal and titled as a 1973 Datsun 240Z which was the donor car....... though little was retained and/or not modified. It is very important to note that it is NOT titled as a"Special Construction" car which is a VERY significant benefit as it gives the new owner a huge advantage in trouble free re-titling in any state and/or to export Worldwide to any country. It still bears the original Datsun VIN plate in the engine compartment and its California title simply reads "1973 Datsun".
