Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a very straight and solid, rare early 1973 Toyota FJ-55 Land Cruiser. This is a solid runner and driver with a contemporary GM 350 4v V8 conversion professionally installed with a new clutch, mated to the original 3-speed manual transmission. The Cruiser has a brand-new battery, new alternator, excellent radial tires, new dual exhaust system (quiet), and is a turn-key runner and driver. The engine swap was done less than three years ago by the previous owner at a local 4x4 shop, done right, and looks as though it came from the factory this way. The power brake system has been recently rebuilt and works perfectly. The vehicle has 103,000 original miles on it, and all the suspension components are very solid; this is obviously not a rig that was abused in any way. I don't know how many miles the engine has on it, but it is in smooth running condition, in good tune, new ignition components, new water pump, new Edelbrock carburetor and doesn't make any noises that would suggest any issues. It runs cool and seems very reliable; no fuel, coolant, or oil leaks to mention. The transfer case operates properly, as do the locking front hubs. Factory transmission, transfer case, and shifters. This is a very well-done professional engine conversion indistinguishable from factory original if you didn't know. The interior is original and pretty darn nice... driver quality, not perfect, but very decent and all there (except rear cargo compartment side panels) and comfortably usable as-is. The original steering wheel is excellent without cracks, horn works, lights, turn signals, brake lights, gauges, etc. all work (oil pressure gauge is intermittent/wonky, perhaps loose connection, or maybe the sending unit needs to be changed to a Toyota version?), heater works, electric rear tailgate window operates smoothly, door windows roll up and down nicely, all glass is good, tailgate opens and shuts smoothly, center seat folds up and down for hauling materials, toys, etc. Appears all original inside with the possible exception of front door panel speakers and glove box lid. The underside of the vehicle appears completely original, unmolested, and surprisingly clean, and still retains its' original spare tire and carrier (pictured). The only obvious change is the new dual exhaust system (and of course the GM 350 engine swap). The exterior is very straight, with an excellent grill, bumpers, fenders, etc., She appears to have only one older repaint in green and white, close to the original green and white. Inside the fuel door you can see that the original green was a lighter "mint" green, not quite as dark as what is presently on it. The paint has some clear coat failing here and there, but overall shows very nicely and the vehicle is good-looking and turns heads wherever it goes... how often do you see this cool and rare model? I'd call the paint driver-quality in present condition; it is shiny and looks good driving by, and walking up. You only notice the flaws when you are right at the vehicle. There does not appear to be any rust at all in any of the floor areas, very solid, still in original white paint, original floor mat, etc. Some very minor blistering under the paint on the lower passenger side in a couple areas, almost not worth mentioning. The driver's side has one rust-through spot in back of the rear wheel well, and a few minor blister/bubble issues along the bottom edge, as does the lower edge of the rear tail gate. I have looked at many of these, and unless they've been restored, or were CA or AZ cars since new, they ALL have way more rust issues than this... these are all small, minor issues that can be left alone, or very easily addressed if you intend to restore this classic. I have taken close-up pictures of the driver's side and tailgate areas that present minor rust so you can see exactly what's going on. You may call me directly at 360-936-9257 with any questions you may have.guarantee expressed, written, or implied. I have done my best to describe the vehicle accurately as an auto enthusiast; I am NOT a professional appraiser, inspector, mechanic, etc. Since she's a 42-year-old classic, the vehicle is being sold as is, without warranty or guarantee expressed, written, or implied. Please make sure you can afford to pay if you bid, and be prepared to remit payment within 3 days via bank wire transfer or deposit into my Bank of America account. I believe that anyone looking for this model to enjoy as-is, or lightly restore will be very pleased. Clear title in hand.
