Vehicle Detail

Up for auction by private party is a classic 1974 Porsche 911 base model. I have owned this car since 2000 and it has been very reliable and given me much pleasure to drive. I purchased the car from an individual in Visalia who provided me receipts and some of the history of the car. When I purchased the car, the odometer showed approximately 49,000 miles and since then I have put on less than 1500 miles per year. Back in 2000, I was told the engine was rebuilt and had approximately 30,000 miles on it so given that, I estimate the engine now has about 51,000 on it. I believe total mileage on the car is 170,600 miles. The car color is guards red and is in fair to good condition but there are some minor chips and flaws but on a scale of one to ten, I would give it a 6 to 7. I believe the car was originally gold in color and around 1990, the car was painted red. There are some minor bubbles showing on the passenger door and under one head light which I have shown in the pictures. The passenger door has one rust spot on the inside of the door which is shown in one of the pictures. The outside edge of the doors are chipped and covered up with a chrome adhesive strip. Aside from that, the body and pan are rust free and solid. I have always covered and stored the car inside my garage as did the previous owner. The interior is tan and is good to very good condition. The carpet is original along with door panels and they look good. The front seats were reupholstered about 5 years and look very good. The headliner is original and is intact but I would say it is in fair to good condition. All gauges, lights and switches work as they should except for the clock. All glass is Porsche OEM including pop out rear windows. Rubber is good all around except the pop outs are showing some aging. The car looks good and I have shown it the local Chico Concourse D' Elegance. The brakes are rebuilt and working perfectly. The tires show very little wear due to the limited mileage on them however two are over ten years old and should eventually be replaced. The front end was recently inspected and new tie rods and ball joints were installed an was re-aligned last week and tracks beautifully. The car also has a brand new battery and new trunk carpet. . The car drives very well and is especially fun to drive on our nearby mountain roads. The clutch is good and the 5 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and I would say is in good condition with only an intermittent slight syncro drag going from first to second until it gets up to operating temperature. As previously mentioned, the engine is rebuilt and has approximately 51,000 miles on it. The engine runs well and pulls very strong. As with most 2.7 engines with magnesium cases, it does have some oil leaks but I have lived with the same leaks myself for 14 years and they are mainly annoying. I typically leave my garage door open for 10 minutes after I park the car to let the oil fumes escape as some oil will drip on the heat exchanger and smoke. I have driven the car to Tahoe and the Bay Area several times and it uses very little oil. I had the car recently serviced by our local Porsche shop and was told that compared to other Porsche of the same vintage, the leaks were not that bad and were pretty typical. There is no engine number on the engine block which indicates it was probably replaced when it was rebuilt. The block type is 911/84 which indicates it is a 1977 vintage. Incidentally, this engine does not have the thermal reactors which was problem for the 1975 through 1977 engines. I was told by the previous owner that the car and engine were rebuilt by old Porsche enthusiast and was upgraded with new head studs etc. I was also told by the PO that the engine was a 911s but without an engine number on the block, it can not be verified and therefore I am listing it as a base model. Apparently the engine rebuilder was locally famous for his love of Porsches and Ferrari's and I can attest his rebuild has held up well. The valves were adjusted last week along with an oil change, so the car is ready to be driven anywhere you like. Note the vin number indicates the car was sold as a basic model and not as 911s. The car does have a Carrera whale tail installed on the rear deck which I am sure is not original. The fit and finish of the tail is fair and I have been tempted in the past to replace the rear deck and restore it back to original. Speaking of original, I believe the Fuch rims are original and they are in good condition. The driver door stay mounting plate has broken off inside the door which is typical for these cars, it should eventually be repaired but the door works perfectly well as is. Heater boxes work well without any unusual smells inside the car. The cold start valve is not connected but the car runs well after about a one to two minute warm up. The car does have an older Alpine CD player and car alarm. The space save spare is split and needs to be replaced The car has a electric sun roof which does need some work on the drains as water leaks inside when washed. Car comes complete with original tool kit and assortment of Porsche manuals and handbooks. Due to the age of the car, it no longer requires smog certificates. Pink slip is in hand with clear title. I do not believe car has ever been in any kind of accident. I also made a short video of the car and have posted it on YouTube. The link to the video is http://youtu.be/lnE7FYkoTvg or you can search by the EBAY item number. Now you can see the car inside and out, and hear it run. I believe I have identified all the flaws of the car and have probably underrated all of the wonderful attributes of this car. I know whoever purchases this car will be pleased with its appearance and though the car is not perfect but can be enjoyed for what it is.......a classic Porsche 911. I would like a $500 deposit within 24 hours of the winning bid which is refundable if upon inspection of the car, it does not meet your expectations. Final payment and transfer of title to occur within 7 days of the winning bid. The car is located in Chico California and the nearest airport is Sacramento which is about 1.5 hours away. Please note that I will not sell this car to bidders overseas or outside of the US so please do not bid on this item. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
