Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1967 Firebird convertible. I bought this car to fix up over the winter, but my work schedule has made that impossible. So far I have cleaned it up, rebuilt the carburetor, gave it a basic tune-up, fixed the leaky brake lines and master cylinder, went through the front brakes, patched the fuel line, and installed a new fuel pump. I was about to swap the subframe mounts (the ones in the car are pretty much nonexistent) and snapped off one of the four body bolts (the others loosened up with no problem) which told me it was time to stop before I had this thing torn down for a frame-off restoration. With no time to restore this car properly, I would rather see it go to a good home. From what I can tell the Firebird was ordered the way it sits today, with Mayfair Maize paint, a black power top, and black bucket seat interior, probably one of the nicest color combinations available in '67. Originally it had a 326 and 2-speed automatic. I believe the engine is out of a later model Pontiac but cannot confirm exactly what it is. Rear is a 10-bolt with the factory traction bar on the passenger side. According to the previous owner the Firebird was a Texas car until it was brought up to Michigan in the early 90s. An old Texas inspection sticker is still stuck to the windshield. The car was a daily driver in the summer, and stored in the winter. Unfortunately, it was stored outside on the driveway for a couple of years so there is typical F-body rust that will need to be repaired. I will do my best to explain where the rust is on this car, but I may miss certain areas. For that reason, if you have any questions about the body I would encourage you to email me before bidding and I will provide detailed pics of any area you wish. The body is pretty straight. There is rust in isolated areas on the hood, and bubbling on the front fenders and doors. It looks like the car had quarter skins installed back in the 1980s. The passenger door jamb has a small hole near the base of the quarter panel which is shown in one of the pics. The driver's front floorpan needs to be replaced, and there are other areas on the floor that need attention but feel pretty solid from inside the car. The oddest rust area on the floor is where the front eye of the driver's leaf spring mounts - there is a lot of rust on the pan but the structure, where it ties into the frame rail, seems solid. Outer rockers look OK from what I can see. The inner rockers are rusty at the very front, near the bottoms of the fenders, and those areas need to be fixed. I think a one-piece floor would be overkill but would be the easiest way to fix everything at once. Trunk floor has a small hole near the driver's side cocktail shaker, and two holes at the front of the gas tank braces. I would replace the braces and patch the floor in those areas. Frame rails have rust scale but seem solid from poking at them. Dash has some rust on the passenger corner from what I can see. The doors sag somewhat, which is why I bought a new set of subframe bushings. Replacing the bushings really tightened up the door fit in other F-body convertibles I have owned. The bushing and hardware kit is brand new and comes with the car. The interior looks completely original including carpet. It's not perfect but in pretty decent original condition with some tears on the seats and warping on the door panels. Original AM radio still works great and the dash has never been modified or cut. Power top motor makes noise but I have never tried to lower the top. The top fabric would need to be replaced as it has a couple of small holes, and has shrunk around the side windows. The plastic rear window is completely baked from the sun as you can tell. The engine starts up and idles fine, and the trans shifts and moves in all gears. I have only driven it up and down the driveway so I would expect it will have no problem driving onto a trailer. I wouldn't want to drive it on the street before replacing the patched fuel line and possibly going through the rear brakes (I only rebuilt the fronts). The tires on the car are probably 40 years old and have some dry rot, so these would also need to go. Somewhere along the line, the original VIN was removed (see pic) and a State of Michigan replacement VIN was installed on the door jamb. I have no idea when or why this was done, but the car has a clear Michigan title so I doubt it was theft related. I have tried to give a very candid and conservative description of the car. I only want the winning bidder to be happy with the car and would rather have someone be pleasantly surprised when they see it. There is a lot of trust that goes into buying a car sight-unseen, and I value my 100% positive feedback on Ebay. The Firebird has a clean Michigan title. I never transferred the title into my name, but can provide a bill of sale to the winning bidder. Terms of sale: the Firebird is sold as-is, where-is, with no warranties expressed or implied. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due via Paypal within 48 hours of the auction's end, and the full balance of purchase price is due three (3) days from the auction's end and must be paid in cash or US Postal Service money orders. Buyer must arrange his own shipping and pick up the car within 7 days from where it is stored (zip 48236). If you have any questions please send me a message and your phone number. I will call you back. Check my feedback and thanks for bidding!
