Vehicle Detail
1956 FORD F100 Big Window Hot Rod This iconic '56 "Big Window" F100 is a wolf in sheep's clothing. No kidding, this is an incredible truck that is bad to the bone and was built right. The gentleman that built this truck did so back in the early '80's. He built it to hold it's own at the track but held it right on the line of keeping it street legal. Best of both worlds in my opinion, monster horsepower and very street-able and a blast to drive. I have thoroughly enjoyed (understatement) driving this truck to local car shows and cruise nights. I have not raced the truck or taken it to a track (admittedly, I have wanted to but just haven't had the time). Being a nostalgic Hot Rod Black F100 Big Window always drew a crowd and as soon as I would fire it up there was nothing but grins and smiles on peoples faces. This summer I paid nearly $1,000 to have a local master mechanic that is well known in the hot rod / dragster circle here in Utah to go through the motor, drivetrain, rear end, suspension, brakes, etc … He was amazed at the attention to detail that was given on the build of this truck. He rebuilt the Holley carb and replaced all fluids and filters as well as dialing it in with a thorough tune-up. He estimated the horsepower to be between 600 hp - 625 hp. It runs fantastic and sounds like a beast (however, it's not so loud that it's obnoxious). It sounds like it has a radical cam in it. It runs straight and smooth down the road and does great in the hot summer …. I drove it, stop and go, for over an hour one August evening and it had no issues or signs of overheating. It runs, drives, shifts, and stops like a champ. He assured me that there were no corners cut or expense spared by the builder. The gentleman that built the truck passed away more than 5 years ago and unfortunately a lot of the information as to the internal engine components went with him. I purchased the truck from his family and they had little information about the engine. The placard on the fan shroud shows that it was built by a Stan Johnson (Washington) and that it is a 466 C.I.D. You can see in the photos that it has the Cobra Jet heads, which if you know what you're looking at, are both expensive and rare. It runs great on Premium gasoline. I put in a brand new Optima red top battery this summer as well. The mechanic that went through it for me learned the following as he worked on it: *Ford 9" Rear End -- 4:11 gears (would have to jack it up and do the driveshaft/tire rotation test to confirm, but he's confident that's what it is)*C6 Ford Transmission with Shift Kit. Looked like a 10" or 11" Converter with 2,700 - 3,000 stall*It has Line Lock vs. a Trans Brake*Flat Tappet Cam, not a Roller*Flat Top Piston, 10:1*He ran a compression test as well. Very strong, no issues. (145) There is no fiberglass on this truck. It is all original Ford steel, even the front end. You'll notice one of the pictures was taken at the '94 Nostalgia Nationals in Kent, WA. That is Dennis, the original owner and builder, behind the wheel. Notice the front end coming off the ground !! I was told that he opted to keep the original steel entire front clip to give him the weight necessary to keep the front end down because had he gone with fiberglass he would've needed to put a wheelie bar on the rear which would have made it non-street legal. This is one of several pictures that the family shared with me. The others, showing the rear frame section, rear end, and engine build are included in the PhotoBucket. The family told me that the most use the truck saw was mostly local car shows and cruise nights with an occasional trip to the local 1/4 mile track. If you're serious about buying the truck PLEASE email me and I will forward a PhotoBucket link to you with more than 60 detailed photos of the truck. The ones I posted in this listing are just a sample of the photos I've taken. If there is something in particular you want to see I'm happy to take more pictures and send it to you. I also have a short video clip of the truck running and driving that I can email. As I mentioned, the build was done back in the early '80's so the paint is showing some age. As seen in the photos it still shows really well but it could use a fresh paint if you're going for the "show truck" look. I really like the way it looks and wasn't going to touch the paint. The truck is rock solid front to back and top to bottom. The passenger door bottom outside corner has a small spot of rust that is about the size of the tip of my little finger. The underbody, frame, cross members, body panels, steps, floor boards, cab corners, etc… are all in fantastic shape with no rust or rot. All four tires are in great shape and have lots of tread. I hope the pictures do the truck some justice. It is an absolute blast to drive and show and is in great running condition. I love the truck and the history behind it but, like so many other cars I've owned it's catch and release time for this one. I've owned this for about a year and a half and have put maybe 200 miles on it since owning it. I have too many toys and I've been working on thinning the herd. The truck really needs nothing but a proud new owner. Please bid only if you're serious about buying the truck. It's a very cool piece of American Hot Rod history that will not disappoint the new owner. Have funds (and permission!) in place before bidding. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them with what I know. Also, Steve, the master mechanic that worked on the truck said he was willing to talk with potential SERIOUS buyers and share his take on the mechanical and overall condition of the truck. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason. It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, as cool and solid as the truck is she's being sold "as is". Reserve is set fair for what it is but I'm not desparate nor am I'm giving her away. I'll consider reasonable offers but I'm not looking for trades right now. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs. I will do all I can on my end to make sure things go smoothly with your transport. I live within 4 miles of I-15 and there's plenty of space for your transport to get in here and get the truck. Thanks and good luck!
