THANK YOU. 1996 FORD POWERSTROKE CREWCAB SHORTBOX 4X4 This is a solid truck that I've had for 3-4 years. I'm not sure exactly when I bought it. It needed a starter when I got it and I didn't register or drive it for at least a year after I first bought it because I didn't have time to fix it. Therefore, the carfax may not accurately reflect how long I've had it. I did a carfax on it when I bought it, but have not since I registered it so I'm not sure how it shows that info. I have a couple other newer powerstrokes, so I never towed much with this truck or worked it hard. It was just my around town truck or fishing/camping type stuff. It has a gooseneck hitch that I've never folded out. I knew the original owner of the pickup. I believe I am the third owner. The body on the truck is in nice shape and it cleans up great. Clear carfax. No sign of any wreck ever. The truck runs great but the automatic transmission is acting a little funny. I'll go over that in the mechanical section. Here are all the details on the ford. Feel free to ask questions. I have more pics I can send and a video of it starting and running. MECHANICAL This pickup has the 7.3 powerstroke with automatic E4OD overdrive. The transmission works fine sometimes, other times you have to rev it a bit (not a lot) to get it to engage into gear. After engaging it upshifts fine. I believe it's the torque converter, but I'm not positive. There is no transmission shop in my town so I haven't had it diagnosed by a transmission tech. I was going to put a new torque converter in it, but I planned on selling it anyways so here it is. If it doesn't sell I'll either fix the auto or put a 5-speed in that I have. I don't believe this transmission has major problems but I am not sure. Worst case, a new transmission is $1500 from rock auto. Maybe cheaper at other places. Best case, just a torque converter or sticky valve or? The fluid in this does not smell burnt either. I do have a complete 5-speed setup I will sell for extra. Transmission, pedal assembly, and new clutch and solid flywheel (in box still). The motor in this truck is very good for the year. I was told the engine was replaced at some point, but I don't know when and I have no paperwork. This smokes very little blue when cold. Just a puff when it's pretty cold out. Many of the first generation powerstrokes with this mileage smoke clouds of blue when cold, and it doesn't clear up until they get pretty warmed up. Many also have bad blowby. This engine is not like that. This motor has very minimal blowby for the year. It doesn't blow oil out the dipstick or anything like that and doesn't stink in the cab. The engine runs cool. No oil in the water or water in the oil. No abnormal ticks or knocks. Oil pressure is great. No fuel leaks. No dripping leaks that will leave any kind of puddle. It does have the normal seepage. New glowplugs. Newer starter. This drivetrain was bone stock when I got the truck, including original muffler. I put a straight pipe on it, but downpipe and aircleaner are still stock. These downpipes are complete junk but I never got around to putting an aftermarket on it. Original aircleaner should be upgraded also. The truck drives nice down the road. Drives straight. No vibrations, no pulling or wandering. The frontend is tight and the balljoints are good. Tires don't wear funny. The tires are older but drive well and have some tread left. Approximately 25-30%. I've had these tires on a couple other powerstrokes and they are the best wearing tires I've ever had. I can't seem to wear them out. The powersteering and brakes work as they should. One front rotor/pads needs changed. The A/C is cold. Cruise, heater, wipers, lights all work as they should. Stereo is original and doesn't work. All electric windows work. All gauges work. Both tanks work. 4x4 works as it should. Overall, the truck is great mechanically besides the transmission issue. BODY The body is in nice shape for a 96. No rust at all. A couple dings but nothing major. No sign of any bodywork ever. No bondo. Clean carfax. The truck cleans up nice, as you can see in the pics with the topper. The topper is NOT included. I would include it, but I had it off and a windstorm damaged it beyond repair. In the other pics with the toolbox, the truck wasn't even clean and the pictures aren't great as it was lightly snowing. The paint shines up nicely. Windshield is cracked, the rest of the glass is good. Doors, hood, and tailgate work as they should. Tailgate trim is gone unfortunately. They are available online and I was always going to order one, and a cap to hide the dent in the top of the tailgate. Just never got around to that either. The inside of the box is scratched up like they usually are. Folding gooseneck hitch I've never used. Overall the truck looks good when cleaned up and I get compliments from people who like the 92-97 bodystyle. The crewcab shortbox was relatively rare in this bodystyle. I believe only '96-'97. INTERIOR The interior is in ok shape. Most of it is pretty nice, but the front carpet is not good. It's usable and doesn't look too bad but if I kept it, I would put a new carpet it. It may not bother some people but It bothers me. The front seat has the usual wear. I don't believe it is ripped anywhere or has any major stains, but it came apart on the drivers seam and I had it sewed back together. The door panels, rear seat, rear carpet, etc. are in nice condition. Dash has a crack but is in decent usable shape. Stereo doesn't work. The interior was not cleaned before the pics. I was driving the truck everyday when I took the pics. OVERALL This is a good truck with a great motor. You can save some money if you know these transmissions, or maybe have another E4OD or 4r100 to swap into it. Thanks.
