Vehicle Detail
This car was last registered in the 70's. It has paperwork showing Connecticut registration in 1972, and the CT plate that's on it has a 1977 sticker. It's been in storage for a long time and is in barn fresh condition. When we pulled it out it started right up (using gas from a can, not the tank). We ran it for a few seconds, that one time, but haven't driven it. This is a very solid car, in need of restoration. There is surface rust but no major rot or holes. The top needs to be replaced, but the bows are all there and function. Also includes a full set of side curtains. The odometer reads 41891. The ID # is XPEG3759. See pics for more. We have received numerous emails that we've got it wrong. This is what we've been told (so far): Hi, After looking at the car, I find it is not a 1955. A 1955 MG would be an MG TF, a different model. It does have the engine from an MG TF, since those cars had XPEG model engines. The car obviously has had the engine replaced with a later one, then that engine number was used to register the car, a common practice back then. The engine was probably replaced before the car was imported to the US, since it is right hand drive, it would have gone to one of the countries where cars are driven on the left side of the road (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, etc). This is TD1325 (see the commission plate on the car) that originally came with engine number XPAG/TD/1315 and was built on April 18, 1950. It has had the dash replaced along with the engine, so it is pretty obvious that it has many more miles than what is on the odometer. The speedometer and Tach are from a later MG TD car (after TD 10778 built 10/51). This car is sort of a mongrel with parts from various cars added. Your MG TD is certainly NOT of 1955 manufacture, it's not even the correct model for that year. I would put it very early 1952 at the latest. Several items indicate it was among the very earliest of the TDs to be made..the non-holed wheels and the door latches indicate to me a very early car. Maybe even made in 1951. That makes it a rare beast in the MG world. Good morning: That is not a 1955 MGTD...the TD's were made in 1949 1950,1951, 1952, and 1953. They were followed in 1954 and 55 by the TF, which is a totally different car. Your car is a curious mix: The wheels are 1949 or 1950, the wiper motor is from a much earlier era, late thirties, and from some different make of car than an mg. The headlights, however are likely from a 1952 or 1953 model. On Dec-04-14 at 14:15:50 PST, seller added the following information: Comment: It's a very early 1950 MGTD, not 1955. Square tail lights & solid wheels without holes. On Dec-05-14 at 09:43:40 PST, seller added the following information: Additional info:
