Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a classic 1967 4 speed Pontiac Firebird 400. This car is in really nice condition with very desirable options as reflected in the Pontiac historical services report for the car. The upgrades are tastefull and functional, not detracting from the stock appearance, as I wanted to maintain the stock look. The car has been restored and is largely original, including the colors, interior, wheels, and entire drivetrain. The restoration was completed 2009/10, with new quarters, full repaint, sub frame pulled and repainted, new body bushings, engine rebuild, trans rebuild, new brake and fuel lines, all new brake rotors, master and hardware, new exhaust, restored interior, new sound system, suspension bushings, shocks, springs, and new tires. There are many brand new parts, too many to list, it was a pretty comprehensive restoration. There is no rust on the body at all. Overall the car is a really nice solid daily drivee, easy 8/10, drives straight, no shimmies or vibs – super fun and reliable car. I have all documenation since I purchased, including the PHS documenation of all options and statistics as delivered in 1967. Why and I selling? Do to other priorities, I’ve sold off all of my vintage cars and motorcycle and this one is the last to go. I’m going to focus on just one modern car for my toy, which keeps me out of the garage and more time for other things in life Options: § 400 Package: has Original 400 engine, don’t know if it has been bored or decked. The only mods include removal of the AIR system and during rebuild a 268 comp cam was installed which you can hear in the idle § Dual exhaust § 4 speed manual transmission with hurst shifter, has new bushings. § 3.36 Safe T track rear end – Locker works, I personally rebuild § Deluxe Interior with fold down rear seat, arm rests, full console, door panels, etc § Tyrol Blue paint § Rally gauges § Ride and handling package § Power disc brakes § Rally II wheels Upgrades: § I installed Hotchkiss Springs and sway bars and Bilstien shocks last year. This greatly improved the handling and looks (lowered about 1.5”). All of the replacement OEM suspension comes with the car. § Installed 14:1 steering box – hands down the best mod to the car. Looks completely stock but transformed the car making it handle like a modern vehicle. stock ratio box comes with the car. § The exhaust is not a stock replacement, and has thrush welded mufflers and long tube headers. § I upgraded the front brake calipers with Wilwood monoblock I did this not for performance reasons (there are none) but for reliability reasons. GM calipers of this era used lip seals and where prone to sucking in air with even the smallest amount disc run out. Over the course of summer, the brakes would start to get very spongy and have to be bled constantly. Corvette and Camaro have retrofit seal/piston kits to fix this, firebird calipers have no such fix, so I replace the calipers and the brakes, though not stock are rock solid. The stock calipers come with the car.§ Brand new Sun Micro Tach on column§ New Pontiac Reproduction OEM rubber floormats § Brand new Optima battery § I have added 3 point seat belts to the car for safety. These are mounted to the factory locations and look stock (they were an option). I never had the originals, nor are there rear seat belts. The Bad: while very nice overall, there are a few imperfections. They are really minor, but I want to give full disclosure: § Slight Overspray is visible here in there (door jams, frame) have to look hard § Door sill covers have numerous scratches § Some of the windows have small scratches § There is corrosion starting in the frames of wing windows on the inside. (the part that holds the glass and swings out). I have a spare set in good shape which go with the car. § The bumper is a brand new replacement, not as nice as the original. I have the original this structurally great, but needs rechromed. § The rally gauges faces are starting to patina and the needle actually failed on the oil gauge. There is an aftermarket oil pressure gauge mounted under the dash. All of the other rally gauges work § I don’t have any of the original AIR smog equipment or exhaust manifolds § I am missing the 2 trim pieces that cover the end of the front rail that screws the fold down seat (see pics). I have the rail, its not mounted and it needs restored. § Minor dings and scratches inside and out from being used § I don’t have a spare tire but I have the jack which is in need of restoration § The trunk like emblems could you’re a restoration of the paint, all other badges are new (400’s, firebird, firebird crests, etc) § I don’t know the true mileage, as it has probably sun the odometer § Everything else works as it should Please ask questions before bidding. I will be glad to answer any question via email or phone, take any pictures you need, and can provide any of the documents to you for review prior to auction ending. If at all possible, I encourage you to make a trip before buying to inspect in person. Its winter now in MN, so it won’t be going for any drives unfortunately (unless it is perfectly dry and you are a serious buyer). !! Title Disclosure !!: The Minnesota Title is bonded. I purchased the car 2.5 years ago from a gentleman in Maine. Maine, like many other state, does not require titles for cars over 25 years old (unlike MN), and this car did not have a title so I had to purchase a bond to register it in my name. IF you have been around classic cars, you know that this is not unusual. If you don’t know how bonds work, google will give you all you need. Basically if the previous owner comes out of the woodwork and claims that he didn’t sell it, the bond protects you, and the bond company comes after me for damages. MN requires a bond be held for three years and then they will issue a non-bonded title. In the mean time, you can sell the car the same as a non-bonded car. The bond will reach 3 years this spring. Please check with your state on how to transfer a bonded title if there are any special rules. I have all of the documentation from when I purchased it, including the original owner’s registration in Maine and my bill of sale, which shows his ownership and legal transfer to me. Being an old car, there is of course no warranty. But look at my feedback with is 100%. This is the 4th car I have sold on EBay, and have bought several others (including this one) all have gone smoothly. Buyer is responsible for any shipping charges and title fees.
