Vehicle Detail
1966 CHEVROLET CORVAIR MONZA CONVERTIBLE (PROJECT CAR OR GREAT FOR RAT ROD) This is a 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza convertible project car that would also make a great rat rod. The car has a clear PA title, V.I.N. #105676W120352, which decodes to a 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza convertible built in the Willow Run assembly plant. It has a 6-cylinder engine with a Ford/Motorcraft Holley 4-barrel carburetor on a manifold adapter. It has a 2-speed automatic transmission. I rebuilt the carburetor and had the engine running about 4-1/2 years ago when I purchased the car. I ran the engine from a remote gas can because I did not want to take a chance with any bad gas or dirt that may be in the car fuel tank since I don't know when it was last run. It seemed to run pretty well though I do know it should have the side facing valve cover gaskets replaced. I did not try to move the car or use the transmission since the car brakes do not work and I know it needs at least some brake work. The body of the car needs work, it has had some very poor body work done with a good deal bondo and a quickie paint job at some point. I replaced the front hood/trunk with a very nice rust free one and also have a matching rear trunk/hood that goes along with the car. The floor panels do have some rust and have had some patch work done which I have pictured as best as I can. I have seen much worse floor panels on other Corvairs especially convertibles. Both doors hang when open because there is some rust in the hinge area of the door jambs (left side pictured), the left is a little worse the the right side. The gas pedal linkage needs repair and to be finished but I did purchase some of the parts needed to finish it which are included. I purchased a new set of locks for the car and installed the ignition and front trunk already and the matching door locks are included. The convertible top has some small holes here and there and the plastic back window is discolored and can't bee seen through. I never put the top down but when a battery is put in the car and you move the power top switch the top does seem to work both ways. The car has four new larger then stock size matching tires on some used aftermarket wheels. The front fender bottom edges should be trimmed a little for steering clearance when turning due to the oversize tires. I have tried to describe the car as best as possible with all the details I know but it is an old car that needs a good deal of work and I am sure there are many things needing repair that are unknown to me so with that said this car is being sold AS IS with no exceptions. Local pickup only and buyer must make any and all transportation arrangements. Please feel free to come check the car out. If you have any questions you can email or call: 215-550-PICK (7425).
