Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is the last of my TR6s. The reality is, Ill never get around to getting this finished. Its had a lot of stops and starts along the way that mirrored my motivation at the time. .. Rebuild the front end...loose the key...then it sat some more.. You get the picture .At any rate, heres the story on the car...First the good...Car was originally that horrible brown...someone had it repainted the traditional red..They didn't take of bumpers/gas tank etc...Those brown areas are visable in the photos...I have removed pretty much everything in preparation for the cars painting.... Engine...The engine has less that 1500 miles on it...barely broken in...Even after sitting for years, I went out, put some oil in the cylinders, put the updated electronic ignition installed a new spin oil filter/changed oil, and proceeded to turn the car over using a can of gas...It started immediately, and despite how dusty the carbs look in the pics, they ran great...shouldn't need rebuild...The engine sounds awesome...and by that I mean quiet...oil pressure and compression are through the roof...Sounds new...Also installed at the time of rebuild was a complete stainless steel exhaust system...You know how expensive Those are...The front end has been completely rebuilt...all bushings/shocks/springs etc...It will need an alignment before its driven...Although having a new engine/exhaust are nice things to have, the value of this car is the condition of the body and frame...The frame is as solid as your going to find...especially at the trailing arm attachment points...The body tub only has a small...maybe 50 cent piece of rust on it..I wire brushed and acid washed any surface rust years ago so there are no holes in any of the body panels. Every mechanical part for these car is readily available, and are pretty cheap considering...What isn't easy to find is a good body to start with...That's what makes this a good car......The bad...The drivers floor has a small area of rust where the tunnel goes...Id patch it as the rest of the floor is solid...Id replace the passenger side floor..The inner and outer rockers are solid, making the floor replacement a much simpler job.. I have a new ignition switch and key..It will need to be installed. I hot wired the car to start it the other day. I have stripped the seats of their old covers and the plan was to wait until Christmas when Victoria british have their interior sale...Get everything you need/door pnnels/seatcovers/foam/carpets etc for about $1300. Their instructions make it a simple installation.. With the exception of removing the rear taillights the car is pretty much ready for paint. Very little bodywork needed. The brakes will be needed to be checked etc...I have one of the bumpers, but Id frankly look for two good used ones.. My estimate for getting the car painted was $1000.A set of bumpers is going to be about $250..With some money, but not a lot of your time, you can have a really nice, basicly new running TR6. You can see how much they've gone up in price over the last couple of years as the TR6 becomes the last of the british roadsters you can afford...Priced a TR4 or Austin Healey lately?...Finally and most importantly, check with your DMV for title requirements. I have a title to the car. It just hasn't been updated. All states are different. Here in South Carolina, I just had to take the car to the DMV to have it visually inspected...The title and vin had to be the same to get new title...Some states just require a bill of sale... please check before bidding...Please don't bid on the car unless you intend to buy it... A lot of the areas that may look brown or rusty in the pics are the original brown paint and any areas that do look rustry are just surface rust, not through the metal rust...THE BATTERY IN THE PICS DOESNT GO WITH THE CAR...
