Vehicle Detail

2001 Triumph Adventurer purchased January 2013 8,469 miles as of 11/11/14 Second owner. First owner was a neighbor from Corpus Christi who garaged the bike for 12 years. Only 6,000 miles on the odometer at the purchase January 2013. Mainly used as a commuter. Repairs prior to purchase: Gas tank insides were sealed with redkote. Gas tank cap replaced, along float bowl and seals, hydraulic fluid, inline fuel filter. Repairs since purchase: Installed new fuel petcock January 2013. Replaced neutral switch February 2013 (did not improve the operation of the neutral indicator light, but I replaced the old switch any way). Installed new starter and stock airbox January 2013. Installed new temperature switch due to constant light on and flickering. Light operates better, but seems to come on too soon. Need to flush system and check fan switch. Done February 2013, but temp light problem persisted. Replaced battery with an X2 with 220 CCA February 2013 Ran Seafoam through the tank twice February 2013. I removed the carbs and cleaned bowls and jets of rust flakes. This led to improved acceleration in the lower RPM’s, and much smoother 0-10 mph starts. March 2013. Replaced original Metzeler ME33 Laser tires with Michelins - 3/19/13 Installed new Terry battery wires 3/20/13. Tied ground to frame member. Installed new throttle cable - April 2013 Drain tank and check petcock - April 2013 Change spark plugs - April 2013 Insure idle screws are 2-1/2 turns out - April 2013 Check vacuum - April 2013 Change oil - April 2013 Change hydraulic fluid in clutch, front brake and rear brake systems - April 2013 Remove old T40 alternator bolt holding down old ground wire - April 2013 Flush cooling system. August 2013. Triumph dealer changed oil and seals in front fork, replaced headlight rubbers. Install new fan switch - Triumph dealer found loose or corroded electrical connection when in for front shock rebuild this year. August 2013. Install new carb to head rubbers. Ordered on 10/28/13. Tried November 2013, but these rubbers were the wrong size. Went back to the old ones which are not in bad shape. Installed Ignitech ignition module and new Nology coils. This caused a marked improvement in the way the engine starts and runs, everything just seemed smoother, especially after cleaning #1 idle jet. - November 2013. Dropped this bike on its left side at around 10 mph on an oil slick at a stop sign November 2013. This caused a scratch on the exhaust pipe, broken windshield, scraped brake handle and a bent handlebar. Replaced the windshield, handlebar, and touched up the brake handle. The scrape is still there, not too bad. Cleaned carburettors again, however, this time I found the idle jet on #1 cylinder completely plugged through the middle. Could not force a small wire through it, had to keep working the wire and kind of drill through the crud with the wire tip. This was done cause I saw the #1 cylinder was not getting warm while idling, but would warm up while running. - December 2013. Troubleshooting overheating light. Found no thermostat installed. Confirmed that the water pump is moving water. Installed new thermostat and o-ring December 2013. Finally, installed ground wire addition to headlight assembly to stop false temperature light problem common to Adventurers. August 2014. Four scratches on the gas tank have been touched up with black. See photos. One is a 1” long scratch, the other three are maybe ¼” in size. Repairs needed: Replace spoke nipple (have 3 spares) in rear wheel (one broken, noticed after new tires were installed March 2013) at next rear tire change.
