1976 Volkswagen Type 2 Riviera Camperwagen Chrome Yellow Hello in eBay land! This is a fantastic find that I am sure more than a few of you out there will appreciate. I have to say, first of all, that it was raining out when I took the pictures of the Bus so there are little droplets all over it. The paint is actually really nice. Also there are different pics under this discription and in the picture area, so look both places. This is a 1976 VW Bus with the Riviera Camperwagen Kit. The Slogan was “A Camper with the Heart of a Volkswagen”. These Campers are pretty rare these days and it is not all that common to find rust free examples. I can’t find any rust in this one and the condition is very original.. (or at least very period correct) I did have the some paint work and some nose body work done, but it was pretty darn nice even before that. It did have the common pushed in nose and some areas here and there that had been “hippy fixed” as the previous owner lovingly referred to it. It was fine I guess, but I wanted a clean slate so I had the work done properly. I ended up painting all the yellow all the way around but just under the windows. The white and top yellow is all original. It matches well, the color is spot on. The one place that this Type 2 did not receive the hippy treatment was the mechanics. This VW has had a completely rebuilt engine in 2006 with 100,041 miles on the clock. Top and bottom with all the trimmings. Total cost was $2,766.72. I will say that this is the strongest running most powerful Bus I have ever driven. It does have the working Fuel Injection, so that helps with power and mileage. The VW comes with a whole file full of receipts and you can tell that it has received a lifetime of care and love. The engine does not leak oil or smoke and starts with little effort. The exhaust is tight and the clutch and transmission mesh smoothly with the tight engine. All the syncros are tight and don’t grind up or down. The brakes stop straight and true and the tires roll without balance issues at any speed. They are a more aggressive tread pattern than I would choose, but they are the proper load rating which is more important than a pretty white wall. The interior is well used but tidy and all functional. The sink and refer and heater all work as they should and the top is crack free and seals well to the top. There is a patch in the vinyl “canvas” but it is not noticeable and fits well with the patina of the rest of the VW. This is a really great Camper VW. It is not new or perfect, but it is totally usable and really pretty too. It is a NW VW, sold new in Seattle and has lived a full life here in the Pacific Northwest. It is a clean and honest Riviria II Camper. Whoever wins the auction will be happy with their purchase. I also have the front tire mount if you wish to mount the spare up front.
