Here is a 1985 Vanagon GL Westfalia camper, 1.9L water-cooled with 4-speed manual transmission, factory AC, power steering, with 170k miles. The van is extremely complete including all owners manuals, clear title, and original interior intact. The van currently starts right up, runs and yard drives, but shows some white smoke from the exaust, indicating it might need at least a water jacket gasket or head gasket (not uncommon with these motors I'm told). I have driven it briefly around the yard and the transmission shifts well. Brakes work but there is a drip from the drivers side rear brake line somewhere. Here is some more detailed info about the van:Frame and Exterior- The frame and undercarriage of this westy are very clean and solid, the pics speak for themselves. Body appears to be all original. It has some of that typical seam rust starting in a few areas. The only area that has some perforation is on the drivers side mid seam down low (see photo), however rocker area below is solid. All other spots are surface rust only. I did go over these area with some rust converter and touch up paint to stop any further corrosion, however I did not cover anything with bondo or filler! There are some dents and dings, the largest being a scrape/dent before and after the camper hook-ups on drivers side, visible in photos. All the doors including slider, and the back hatch are in great shape, gas shocks for rear hatch are weak and will need replacing.The pop top is in decent shape but will need a new seals for around the edge. The seals on there are probably original and are very dry. I did install a new skylight and seal on the roof. The tent is probably original and shows typical wear and some stains, but usable none the less. It has a couple small patches, one on the zipper door and one on the drivers side. The screen for the canvas door has some tears. Bumpers still shine pretty nice and the glass is all good. Front has some stone chips in the paint from the road.Interior: The interior appears to be factory original and 100% complete, including the back hatch screen which is in new condition, and even the small velcro screen and shade for the skylight window. The only modification I noticed was upgraded Kenwood speakers in the rear, but it looks like the factory Kenwood stereo cassette remains in the dash (I have the manual for that as well!) Seats and cushions are all very clean overall, and it has a heavy duty composite floor under the carpet. The propane appears to be empty so I have not tried to run the stove or the fridge off that. I have not gotten the fridge to run on 12v or 110, and I haven't has a chance to figure out why yet. Cabinets and curtains are in great shape, original jack is in there, and I installed a new battery.This is a nice solid & original water cooled westy that would make a great project for someone. Like I said the van currently runs and yard drives but will need the engine looked at further, so the winner should have it towed to avoid causing and damage to the internals of the motor. But it can be driven up onto a transport vehicle without a problem. I have a whole folder of manuals and a clear MA title.
