Vehicle Detail
Here is great opportunity to buy a beautiful, perfectly maintained, completely original 280 SL. As I'm sure you already know these early SL's are appreciating quickly and many have already sold for over six figures at some of the big classic car auctions. Many are listed here on eBay for between 80 and 120 thousand dollars. When auctions and dealers start to realize prices like this the values of these cars can only go one direction. Just look at other high quality classics from the same era. Ferrari, Porsche, and all SL's up to and including these, last of the beautiful, roadsters. This car has a great and well documented history and will make someone a fantastic and enjoyable investment. It is a two owner car. Bought new in Ohio and sold to the second owner after only 4 years in 1975. The current owner has enjoyed it as a third car ever since. He has finally and reluctantly decided to part with it. His retirement lifestyle does not allow him the time to enjoy it as he once did. During his time with the car he has documented every bit of service, maintenance & repairs no matter how small. The original books have all the stamps and notes from the Mercedes Benz dealership since it was delivered new. To include the original window sticker showing the $8,941 MSRP. Options include power steering, bumper guards, Europa Becker radio, tinted glass, whitewall tires, and chrome roof rails. Also documented are the later service records from other shops including all oil changes and scheduled maintenance as well as tires, batteries, and the occasional repair or parts replacement. The car had one repaint about 20 years ago in it's original color. This was just ot give it a fresh look and take car of stone chips, door dings and the like as well as some minor repair to the right rear fender. The paint has held up very well and still shines up beautifully. All the chrome is excellent and original. The interior is completely original and in remarkable condition showing almost no signs of wear or age. The seats, the dash, the wood and the carpets all look great. A true testament to the quality of these cars and the care it received. The hard top is included and looks just as nice as the rest of the car. The headliner is original and in excellent condition. Included with the car are Both tops the original books and records, owners manual and even has the original manual for the Becker radio which is still in the car playing great songs from the 60's and 70's. It has the original window sticker, the original tools, the spare and the wheel chock as well as the original jack and both original factory issued keys. The car was rustproofed when new and always garaged and babied. So the underside looks as solid as new. Both tops look excellent. I assume the soft top is fairly new. It fits like the factory top did in 1971. The hard top was likely repainted when the car was as it looks like new. It has both the top latch tools still in their original pouch. Everything seems to work just as it did new. It runs beautifully shifts perfectly and tracks straight as any new car. Brakes are strong and stop the car perfectly straight. The only fault I could find on the 120 miles I have driven it is that the turn signals do not cancel themselves as they should and the drivers seat could benefit from additional padding in my opinion. It has plenty of support and was quite comfortable on the 2 hour drive I recently enjoyed in it. However; it does not feel as firm as the passengers seat. All in all I would not be afraid to drive this car any place and any distance. While it is a very valuable and beautiful investment is not a perfectly restored trailer queen show car. This is a car to be enjoyed and driven as it skyrockets in value. There are not many cars one can buy that can deliver this kind of performance and safety in todays traffic and increase in value year in and year out. In the next few years you will either be enjoying this car as it appreciates or talking about the one you could of had for half of what they will soon be selling for. Pick up the phone and give me a call. ask questions and come see it in person if you can. This one is worth it. My number is:614-352-3434jeff I do reserve the right to end the sale early if the car is sold prior to the end of the auction. It is being sold as-is where-is with no warranty. The $1,000 Non-refundable deposit is due immediately after the sale has ended via pay-pal. The balance is due within 5 days. No exceptions please. I can keep the car stored in my heated garage for up to 30 days while you arrange shipping. But it must be paid in full within the 5 day period or prior to pick up. whichever comes first. The time to ask questions and schedule inspections is prior to bidding. Your bid is a binding contract to buy this car at your bid and the reserve is vey low and well below what these have been selling for. The owner fully intends for it to sell so please only bid what you feel it is worth based on your own knowledge and observations.
