My uncle is a local painting contractor who works mostly on very high end homes. He was doing a job in a very nice neighborhood and this VW Bus was in a person's garage. The body/paint work were already done, but the bus was a rolling chassis. All the parts were there, but everything needed to be assembled. The engine was 100% disassembled. Interior was out of the car in boxes. Everything was apart. The peolpe were planning to move in the next year or so and decided to sell us the VW Bus. The gentleman who sold us the bus owned it for 35+ years and bought this bus in Texas in the 1970's while he was getting his engineering degree. The body on this bus is OUTSTANDING!!My uncle knew I had a close friend who is a German mechanic born in the Westfalia region of Germany. He was factory trained in the 1970's by Opel in Germany and also had experience fixing VW Buses. He had never been to the USA before and I thought this would be a great time for him to come visit the USA and we could work on this project together. So that is what we did and what a triumph it was!! The previous owner (after selling us the vehicle) joined forces with my German friend in putting the 100% rebuilt engine together. Brakes are new.
