Vehicle Detail
1993 BMW M5 Calypso Red! Thanks to a bidder who suddenly "could not come up with the money," I am relisting my E34 M5. I've owned this M5 for several years, and it's only let me down once, when the crank hub went out on it (see below). It is my understanding that this is one of two Calypso Red '93 M5s imported to the US. Why am I selling: I have too many vehicles, and too many projects. Something has to go. What's wrong with it? Considering the mileage, surprisingly little. It does NOT currently run. The front crank hub went out on it (a common E34, S38B36 occurrence). As the crank hub contains the Crank Position Wheel, it will not run. Also, the vehicle has minor hail damage, and the driver's seat bolster is beginning to tear. Finally, the inserts on the door cards are starting to pull away, and the headliner and packing shelf material have started to pull. What's good about it? A lot! The engine has good compression (see photos), no particles in the oil, and no sludge or varnish in the cam areas. The transmission shifted very nicely, and the clutch felt good. It has a new radiator (last fall), and a new A/C condenser (just before the crank hub went). The A/C has been converted to 134A, and blows nice and cold! Like most S38B36 engines, it does seep some oil in the came chain area, but it doesn't gush or leave unsightly puddles. The car is, for the most part, all original. It wears most of its original paint (it was involved in a minor accident requiring the rear bumper and left rear quarter panel to be repainted). The carpet should clean up nicely, as should most of the leather. While it was running, everything worked. All window motors function (the passenger rear needs attention). The power seat function properly (including the power headrests). And both the cassette and CD players function properly. The radio display is going bad, however. The wheels were refinished when it was in the shop for the bumper, and the throwing star centers do come with the car. They have not been refinished, but are in good shape. The tires are in great shape (Michelins) with around 70% of their tread left. If you're looking for a good car to fix up over he winter, I don't think you can go wrong with this one. If you're looking for cheap transportation, please look elsewhere. This car needs some work. It's mostly labor, and a handy car guy or gal should have no problem bringing it back to its former glory. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you might have. Viewings can be arranged as well. The car is located in the Lenoir City, Tennessee area, just south of Knoxville. Thanks, and good luck bidding! Bill P.S. I have been asked about trades/partial trades. The only trade I would consider is a Nissan 300ZX (Z32).
