Vehicle Detail
This is my 1971 Mustang that I have brought through a ground up restoration. Like so many of these cars it had it's fair share of rust in the rear body so both quarter panels, the trunk floor, and tail lamp panel have been replaced as well as the floor pans. The doors and left fender are original to the car. The engine, transmission, and rear differential are original but all have been rebuilt. I have the original carburetor but the car has a Holly on it right now. The transmission was in good shape so it was freshened up with new clutch's and torque converter as well as a shift kit. The rear diff had problems as it had bearing failure so we kept the ring and pinion but installed a new locking unit and bearings then detailed it. Overall the car runs well with no odd noises, clunks etc. The interior was refinished in black with silver trim and carpet inserts. The seat foam is all new and the frames and springs were in good shape. The original shoulder straps come with the car but have not been installed. I used the original hood as a pattern to recreate the black out on the hood and the white paint is single stage PPG as I felt this was more durable and looked better with the flat black trim instead of the incorrect gloss black on most quick flip cars. I contacted the original owner a couple of years ago and he special ordered the car. It was delivered in Nashville in February of 1971. I asked why so many cool functional options then an automatic and no air conditioner. He replied that the budget was pretty thin so he thought a/c would make the payment to much so frills like air and FM radio that might be a fad were left off the order form. For the most part I stuck with the assembly as it was when new but instead of the 15x7 inch steel wheels with hub caps and rings I added the 15x8 Magnum 500s and the front and rear spoiler's. The owner also told of a minor accident early in the cars life that claimed the right fender so the fender was replaced in the early 70s. I believe all of the glass is original except the windshield. The gas tank is original but has been steam cleaned and pained black, New stainless steel fuel, brake, and transmission cooler lines were installed along with body, suspension, and engine bolt kits. While the dash was out the heater box and cluster were disassembled and cleaned and new seals ware added. he exhaust is a pre bent factory looking set that sounds great. I have driven the car probably three thousand miles and it has been a real head turner and has never embarrassed me with mechanical problems as can often happen with old cars. I am slow at typing but will respond to questions or will call you if you give me a phone number. Thanks for looking, Butch
