Vehicle Detail
Beautiful 66 Volvo 544 Sport. This amazing example has spent its entire life , since leaving the factory, in Los Angeles, California. The current owners purchased it from the original owner in 1970. They drove it for 14 years, then sold it to local Volvo enthusiast who drove it for a few years, after which it was garaged, awaiting restoration. The car was then re-purchased by the current owners, in 2011, from the estate of the gentleman they sold it to back in 1984!The current owners, brothers Bob, and Mark, of Elco Welding, Venice, have since done a meticulous 'resto-mod' of this solid, rust free car.Bob has been building, and hot rodding, all manner of vintage and classic cars for nearly 60 years. The quality of his work is legendary, and highly valued. That said, the level of attention bestowed on this family heirloom is nothing short of breath taking. The body is accident free, with flawless floor pans. It was stripped and expertly prepped for an acrylic enamel paint job. All new rubber seals, a new factory windshield, and restored original trim, re chromed where necessary. Custom made bumpers, stronger, and subtlety more stylish than stock. The interior has Dyna mat sound deadening on the floor, reupholstered with new carpet, headliner, door panels, and seat upholstery. The front bucket seats are late model Ford seats under the original style fabric, infinitely more comfortable and supportive, with more adjustability. All the while maintaining stock appearance. The dash is original, all gauges work. There are a couple aftermarket gauges below the dash. There is a battery disconnect switch controlled from a custom linkage below the dash. There is a new Panasonic stereo, with flip up screen, and a back up camera. The original motor was rebuilt with .030 over pistons, a 'D' camshaft, new bearings, gaskets, new factory flywheel and clutch assembly. It runs smooth and strong, with a Weber 32/36 carb on a vintage Cannon manifold. The fuel tank is spotless, new fuel pump, and fuel lines. The generator has been upgraded to a new GM alternator. Wiring harness is the original in excellent condition.Transmission was replaced with a stock one in excellent condition. New u joints on the drive shaft. Suspension has new A arm bushings, new steering rods, and an IPD front sway bar. The car handles great!Brakes are rebuilt with new flexible lines, shoes, wheel and master cylinders, fresh synthetic fluid.New tires on vintage style mag wheels. Original rim and hub caps included, as well as the original carb and manifold. The only flaws on the car are a broken horn ring ( horn works, new rings are available), a couple cracks in the dash pad, hidden in the seams. The actual mileage is unknown, the odometer has most likely rolled over. The car starts and runs perfectly. The engine is smooth and powerful, the transmission shifts effortlessly, the suspension supple. It handles great with the sway bar, no body roll. Stops straight and sure.Only a few hundred miles on this labor of love restoration. This tastefully upgraded Volvo is ready for daily use.Any questions, please call Bob @ 310-821-7337.We will happily ship anywhere, at buyers expense.
