Vehicle Detail
59 Bonneville 2-Door Hardtop Original color: White body with Sunset glow top, interior and wheels VIN: 859P22288 Mileage: 43,356 (I can't guarantee this is the original mileage, but from the good condition of the interior, brake pedal rubber, foot feed rubber, etc., it may be.) The engine runs good, and the transmission seems solid. Original equipment options: Power steering, power brakes, deluxe push button radio, 4 bbl carburetor, hydramatic automatic transmission. Here is the condition of the car as accurately as I can describe it: HOOD: The hood currently on the car has been stripped of all paint, top and underside. It is very solid, rust free under side and top. There is some warp that will need to be straightened and the back corners need slight straightening. FRONT/ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The radiator support, and inner fenders are solid, no rust. The firewall has the original paint, and has the original inspection stamp dated June, 1959, which is evidently when the car was made at the Pontiac, MI plant. The body number is also still on the firewall in grease pencil. That was written on while on the assembly line to let the workers know which options to put on the car. The engine and transmission are running good. It does need a tune up. It has the original 389 engine with a 4 bbl carburetor. The power brake unit and master cylinder have been professionally restored. The steering gear and power steering unit have also been professionally restored, but the power steering is not hooked up. The radiator is in good condition. The front bumper has some surface rust in a couple spots, but is very straight. It should be re-chromed. The grille, grille bars and sheet metal under the grille are all in good condition. The anodized aluminum grille trim is all available, but will need to be straightened, buffed and re-anodized. The only missing grille trim is the RH (passenger side) "eyebrow" molding that goes on the front fender over the headlights. FR FENDERs: The front fenders are in very good condition. TRIM: All the aluminum, chrome and stainless trim comes with the car, but will have to be straightened, buffed/restored and all the chrome, inside and out, will have to be re-chromed. It is all blemished, dented, blistered or pitted to some degree. DOORS: There is virtually no rust on either of the doors, inside or out, top or bottom. The chrome window frames are decent, but will probably need to be re-chromed along with all the other bright work on the car. The LH quarter window frame will need to be replaced as the chrome frame is rusted through in one spot ROCKER PANELS: The rocker panels have been repaired with body filler in a couple places, (see pictures) but are straight. I'm sure there was rust that was patched. I have owned the car for about 8 years and there is still no rust bleeding through, so maybe the fix worked. There is also rust through on the back side of the rocker panels, underneath the car. It has not been patched, but will need to be. QUARTER PANELS: Both quarter panels are very straight, but it appears that rust was repaired with body filler along the bottom of each quarter panel and over the wheel opening where these '59s usually rust. I have a virtually rust-free passenger-side quarter panel that I would sell if the buyer would rather replace the right quarter panel than repair it. All quarter panel moldings and the 4 Bonneville ornaments on each side are available, but will need to be restored/re-chromed. The peak moldings, both inner and outer, are on the car and are in good shape. The V shaped moldings that connect the two peak moldings under the rear window are missing. REAR PANEL: The panel between the tail lights is straight and rust free. The tail lights and backup lights are complete. The "P-O-N-T-I-A-C" letters that go on the rear panel are included and in good shape. They may not need to be re-chromed. The rear bumper is in excellent shape and may not need to be re-chromed for a driver. DECK LID: The deck lid is rust free, top and bottom, and is very straight. There is only a little surface rust where the molding fits. The molding has some dents that will need to be straightened. FLOORS: The floors have some rust through that has been repaired on the front seat foot area. There is some rust through below the back of the front seat on both sides (see pictures). I believe Ames sells patch panels for the floors on a '59, and they may be needed, esp. if this is to be restored to show condition. Much of the trunk floor is solid, but there are areas of rust-through on the left side, in front of the tail light supports and around the gas tank neck at the back of the trunk. WHEELS/TIRES/HUBCAPS: The wheels have been sand blasted and painted sunset glow. The tires are radial and would be serviceable for a while, but would need to be replaced if the car is to be a show car. The spinner hubcaps are dented around the edge from years of taken off and put on. and the spinners will need to be re-chromed. You may want to find better hubcaps. TOP: The top still has the original paint and is very straight. The stainless steel trim around the top is in good shape. Some minor dents could be easily straightened and the trim polished to like new condition. Likewise for the windshield reveals and the rear window reveals. INTERIOR: The interior is the original sunset glow interior. It is not likely good enough to use, but would make an excellent pattern. All the original sunset glow interior leather/vinyl, and material for the door panels and quarter panels are available from one or more suppliers. The dash, interior door handles, window cranks, and kick panels, interior trim is included. There is no carpet and one of the chrome dash panels that fit on the ash tray is missing. I will take pictures on any part of the car you wish to see in more detail. Call 303-378-7831 if you have questions.
