Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE ****RELISTED DUE TO ANOTHER NON PAYING PERSON. PLEASE DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU HAVE THE FUNDS TO PAY. This old man was my dream car. I have wanted a 1966 428 Emberglow ¼ window Thunderbird and here he was. I purchased him from Arizona from the prior owner that purchased him from the owner who rebuilt the engine and got him back on the road. Well unfortunate for the master mechanic, his wife is stricken with cancer and consequently passes while learning he too has cancer and is seriously ill. He has to sell his beloved Thunderbird immediately after the rebuild not having the chance to continue with the C-6 rebuild. The man I purchased from paid for the C-6 rebuild (still under warranty) and here is where I begin to presume what occurs. As the Ford FE specialists reading this will understand, you can’t rebuild an engine and simply force it driving at high speeds without a break-in. I believe he blows the head gasket and sells it to me with changed oil and of course no disclosure. He also lied about the vehicle being a 428 … as soon as it was opened again for the head gasket change, it was measured and it doesn’t come out to the 428 bore. I finally hunt down the previous owner (not the dishonest one) and we have a 2-hour conversation about the car and history. He says he did replace it with a rebuilt 390 (photos attached). After finally getting into the trunk, to our surprise what’s in the trunk but a brand new engine gasket set? Well how odd if you are selling the car with a rebuilt engine. *Trunk does now open and close on its own. This old man needs a true restoration person to take time with him. I purchased believing the 428 was ready to go with simple interior work needed. Unfortunately he will need more. I will tell you all I know and supply winner with the number of master mechanic who did own the car. You are more than welcome to see and drive in person. So here are the issues that I know of: · Needs possibly intake manifold gaskets (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/rebuilt-390-fe-burns-oil.365032/) somewhere is leaking of oil. Seems to smoke blue at start up and bunches when hot. Odd but at times it won’t smoke at all? Blue smoke is light in color.· Needs a carburetor expert to align the new Holley with this 390. · Timing adjustment – could be 180 out but starts and runs (some back fire when pushed). Will overheat with driving after about 20 minutes. Steady temperature while idling even over an hour.· Has exhaust leak.· Needs interior lights (relay?).· Needs carpet.· Needs headliner.· No brake lights, but sequential work great.· Needs headlight-retaining screws.· Cigarette lighter doesn’t work.· Clock doesn’t work· Power door locks don’t work· Unsure about 8 track because wiring has been routed by previous owner to aftermarket stereo.· AC removed but York compressor and bracket included in sale (not sure if it works)· Look at all body photos and you can see bodywork needed.· Will need restoration as it sat even with the rebuild over 5 years and prior was a barn find for over 20. · All Arizona dirt packed on the bottom like glue! The good things I know: · Rebuilt 390 with recent head gasket and intake manifold gasket change· Brand New Holley 4610 (8510) 4 barrel 750CFM· Brand New Rotors / Brakes· Electronic ignition· Rebuilt C-6 with warranty New Shocks· All windows now work o Passenger won’t go down but raises o Rear windows won’t work from rear switches but main switch will operate them o Passenger vent will move by hand without crank · 6 way Passenger seat works great· New drive shaft· New Aluminum radiator (original included)· Interior not bad – I would re upholster driver seat and add padding to both fronts· NO RUST WHATSOEVER!!!!· Pretty straight body· New tires· Unique color combination with quarter windows· Great restoration candidate. That’s what I know ladies/gentleman. If I left out anything, it wasn’t intent. I will simply reiterate restoration is needed. *DID Run and drive. (I have driven it about 20 miles total since purchase and just to get compliments will drive him to local grocery store and back – 3 blocks away). JUST STOPPED STARTING. DON'T KNOW WHY. I will answer anything I can. I am a big classic car fan and very aware of the worth once completed. Take a look at Hagerty (http://www.hagerty.com/valuationtools/HVT/VehicleSearch/Report?vc=626528). Value is relative and I realize that. I hope winning bid will love and want him restoring him to the perfection he should have. Thank you for your interest and good luck! Please do not bid if you cannot pay within 4 days close of auction. Vehicle can stay with me for a couple of weeks if you need time to arrange transportation. It is registered in California. NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT due within 48 hours end of auction. I will take it to any port and help with loading. Will be happy to ship oversees at your cost.
