Vehicle Detail

Description You are looking at an original 1954 Mercury Monterey Convertible, in the color known as Bittersweet, and equipped with a 3 speed overdrive, power steering and brakes. It has been well taken care of by a local owner who has decided to downsize. Below is a video collection of the automobile: Please scroll down and enjoy the 350+ photos. If you cannot view all the photos, please click here. Mechanically, it runs and drives well for the age of the car. The engine is smooth and starts right up. It steers / turns stops better than we expected. The gauges appear to work as do the headlights and other bulbs. The car also stops and shifts well. It has a small bit of chatter when starting in first as you would expect, but shifts through the gears including overdrive. The radio does not function, and the heater is not hooked up as you can see. Also note there are wires that are under the dash that will need to be hooked up. The vehicle is surprisingly smooth and comfortable at 45-55 MPH as well. It has mild glass packs for an exhaust system. Cosmetically, this is one of the nicer cosmetics we have encountered. It would easily win a local or regional show. However, it is not a 100 point show car. As you can see, it was professionally reconditioned years ago and is very, very nice. There was some work done years ago in the rocker and trunk areas as you can see. Please see the photos and read the description to have a better gauge of vehicle condition. Also note that the exterior panels and color appear to be original but no guarantees. We could not detect any major bodywork or accidents. The car runs and drives extremely well for the age and was a pleasure to drive for the auction videos. We were impressed with the outstanding cosmetic and mechanical condition. This is one of the nicest 1954 Mercury convertibles that is not over-restored and the physical condition is as nice in person as it is in the photos. These 1950s Mercury cars are truly an American icon. Additional auction information: This vehicle is sold as-is. We cannot warranty any parts and as with any vintage vehicle, they are always a project in some way. Please note this before bidding if you are looking for a vehicle that will operate like a new vehicle. Collector cars are many times tempermental and reliability can be a factor on some. We also did not test each accessory or feature, and only drove the vehicle for a short distance. Any of these should be trailered to their destination until the vehicle is checked over for safety (tires, etc). The title is free and clear, and we are also requiring a bill of sale be signed by the new owner stating this car is being purchased as-is. It is a very straight original car as you can see in the photos. It gets a ton of attention and would make a great addition to your Mercury or classic car collection. Please call our store at (414) 727-0600 for additional information on this vehicle. Best of all, we are selling this beauty with NO RESERVE, but do reserve the right to end the auction early as it is for sale locally. Good luck in the auction. On Aug-23-14 at 08:39:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for all the wonderful comments on the car. It is a great vehicle and we have had much interest in it. We wanted to clarify several points on the car just to be clear: This car is a very, very nice driver, not a 100 point show car. The price reflects this as the car would sell for $55,000+ if it were. That being said, it is still a phenomenally beautiful car and would win local shows. The car exterior paint is extremely nice but not without flaws. There are a few touch ups and small marks as shown, but again, very very nice. There is some blotches to the color under the clear coat as shown. The paint appears to be base coat clear coat. The dash has the original wiring and should be replace with a new harness or minimally, it should be rewired. We are unsure of the original color but the car at this time is Bittersweet, which is a 1954 Mercury color. The video of the car has amplified the ticking of the engine which is very minimal at times, and most of the times does not exist. It idles super smooth and runs like a top. It is also extremely quiet. Some of the chrome appears to be original and others appear to have been replated years ago. The VIN or Data Plate reads: 54WA51162M, BR-76B 18-101-475-G-19. The vehicle drives extremely well for the age. However, we would still recommend trailering it to a destination out of state. We can assist in shipping this car worldwide We hope this helps and can be reached at (262) 894-7348 to answer any questions you may have.
