Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a Rare 425 ci Super Rocket Convertible Olds 98The Oldsmobile Flagship for 1965 Classic Black on Black, it starts right up and is driven daily. Yet, one of only 4,900 Olds 98 Convertibles made that year.Projected to be one of 500 that is still operable and on the road.Rarer still because of its California Car condition and original motor. Detailed Model InformationThe Oldsmobile 98 (originally Series 90 a.k.a. Ninety-Eight) was a full-size automobile and the flagship model of the Oldsmobile division of General Motors.Only 4,900 of these convertibles were produced in 1965. Completely redesigned from the bottom up, the seventh generation of the 98 series was introduced in 1965. The lineup continued on the larger C-body shared with Buick Electra and Cadillac while the Oldsmobile 88 used the B-body. Though many of the same lines as the 88 were found on the 98, the latter featured more squared off styling. This year featured five body styles as the Custom Sport Coupe was eliminated from the lineup and the 4-door 6-window body styles were replaced with 4-door 4-window body styles. The elegant Luxury sedan wasn't a hardtop anymore, and featured a plush interior with many more standard features. For 1965 only, most 98 Luxury Sedans had vinyl roofs. All hardtops once again received the name Holidays for this year. The 98 Series included standard gear like power steering and brakes, transmission, padded dash, power windows, foam padded seats, clock, parking brake light, courtesy and glove box lamps, front seat belts and much more. The standard tire size for 1965 was 8.55 x 14 inches. The unpopular three speed Roto Hydramatic was replaced with a new three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission with torque converter. The engine was all-new for this year as well. A 425 cu in (7.0 L) Super Rocket V8 powered the 98 Series with a much more efficient design than its predecessor and was much lighter. The four-barrel 'Ultra High Compression' version of the 425 Super Rocket rated at 360 hp was the 98's standard and only engine offering for 1965. Detailed Condition InformationThis rare 65 Oldsmobile 98 convertible is in very good condition and it's loaded with options including factory air conditioning. Loaded with options including automatic transmission, power steering, power top, power seats, power windows, vent windows, power antenna, a/c, tilt/telescopic steering column and dual mirrors. Engine: This 1965 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible is powered by a strong 425ci V-8 that produces 360 horsepower and it moves this big convertible with ease. This model is finished in Ebony Black and features a black leather interior and black top.The brakes stop the car fine and were regularly serviced. The automatic transmission shifts nicely through all the gears as it should.Exterior: Lots of little scratches and imperfections but with a little touch up paint and wax and this Land Yacht would be great. Interior: The interior is presentable with the usual wear. Some spot loss on one quarter. Please see photos. A slice on another interior quarter where likely some electrical work was done.Glass: The glass appears in very good shape. Front windshield is tinted in the very top and in excellent shape. All other windows appear not to be tinted.Battery: the battery is new and was recently replaced.Tires: The tires are good and period correct. Nice white walls that could use a bleaching. Paint: The paint appears to be original and is consistent with one of the Oldsmobile colors of that period. Plenty of scratches and spots that need to be buffed out and waxed.Title: The title is a clear California title and is smog exempt in California. Please check the rules in your State about title transfers and emissions. The Convertible is located in Reno, NV and can be held as long as you need to behind a locked fence.
