For sale is my 1974 Alfa GTV that I parked in my barn and let it sit for the last 30+ years. I used to start it every few months but as time went by that happened less and less. This car has not had the engine run for at least 12 years, the gasoline in the fuel tank is old and I did not want to suck that rotten fuel through the injectors. I put in a battery and the engine does turn over. This car ran fine when it went into storage. It rolls easily. The transmission was silky smooth except if driven aggressively the 2nd gear synchro was notchy. All the glass is intact and the brite work is just okay, the grill is pretty nice. This car was originally green and given a 5 dollar paint job at the corner used car dealership where I purchased this car in December of 1981. I was a naive young man and this pretty little car caught my eye, I must have had more money than brains because after a short test drive I purchased this car "as is". A few weeks later the rocker panels bubbled and almost disintegrated. My mouth must have been very loud and annoying because I got the dealer to put in new rocker panels on both sides. I could not believe a car only 7 years old could be such a rusty piece of crap. So began my adventure to restore this car back to prime condition . I wanted a solid beautiful car to enjoy in the summer months. I removed the flimsy bumpers which were useless anyway and filled the holes with bondo, YIKES body filler on an Alfa Romeo ? These cars probably were rusty pieces of junk on the boat ride over. I put bondo on the car and so did the previous owner. The spare tire well looked funky and upon probing it appears to have body filler in the bottom. The paint in the trunk is flaking off like large potato chips. The fender lips feel good when I pinch them with my thumb and index finger. The doors are patched on the bottom because when I took off the door panels I can see the patch panels from the inside. The floors are patched with steel sheet. The windows used to roll up until I got my fingers on that nightmare of spaghetti cables, now a wood wedge holds them up. The car includes new vinyl seat covers ( covered in midew from years of storage) and some brand new badges, and script. Listen closely...you are NOT buying a running classic car. You ARE buying a car that was crap when it was new, further degraded by the previous owner and then finally had the last nail driven into its coffin by me. I consider this car a piece of JUNK. Buy this car and you too can continue the mistake I made. Priced very low with no reserve. Good luck! P.S. car is sold "as is". On Aug-11-14 at 11:41:09 PDT, seller added the following information: Just wanted to let everyone understand this car is not road ready. I wanted to restore it and began to disassemble it over thirty years ago. When I saw the terrible shape of the floor and how cheaply every thing was put together , along with the cheap materials used at the factory I lost interest and shelved this project. It sat as a pile of parts until recently when I threw the carpet and seats back in. Anyone parting with their hard earned cash would need to strip this car completely and start over and do it right. I never had the money or skill level required. The car looks better in pictures than real life . If after reading this you want to cancel your bid that is okay with me.
