Vehicle Detail

1963 Bentley S3 A very rare, grand and impressive motor car. This Bentley was sold new to a Mr. Foyle by Broughton’s Bentley Ltd. of Cheltenham, England on November 26, 1962. See attached photo of original build sheet. The car also has two Broughton’s of Cheltenham emblems on the door sills. Needs full restoration. Has Rolls-Royce grill conversion and air conditioning. Car has optional power windows. Right hand drive, power steering, power brakes. Fenders, quarter panels, rocker panels and door sills have had poor quality amateur rust and dent repairs with filler and need attention. There are numerous dents on all panels, and cracks in the paint and filler. Sheet-metal skirts and aprons under the body, fenders, quarters and rockers are rusty and some are rusted away. Bumpers need repair and replating, grille needs replating. Frame seems generally solid except for two apparent rusty areas and thus, the condition of the frame is not guaranteed. The two areas that are rusty and that need attention are, in the left rear corner, and in the right rear behind the right rear wheel, where a cross member attaches, see photos. Also, there is a rust hole in the left rear floor about 5” x 12.” The hood, all four doors and decklid are aluminum and appear to be very solid. Car is not running and mechanical condition is unknown. For as little as it may be worth, the prior owner said the engine was running about five years ago. This car is being sold in “as-is,” “where-is” condition, and comes with no guarantees or warranties whatsoever. The odometer shows 54,837 miles, but it is unknown if this is the original mileage. Interior seat bottom cushion leather bolsters have dried out and are covered with loose pieces of leather, but there is enough of the original material left underneath to be suitable as a pattern for a new interior. Also, the prior owner forgot and left some of the windows open on the car when a later rainstorm soaked three of the door panels. Left to dry out in the sun over the next several days, the leather shrank on those door panels, but they are still suitable as patterns. The back window is getting foggy on the bottom and there may have been a leak in this area in the past as the rear window interior wood molding is missing a small piece. Also, there is a tear in the headliner, but it is otherwise intact as a pattern. The dash and wood trim needs to be re-veneered and refinished. The driver’s door window is open three inches currently. The rear seat picnic tables and ashtrays are intact and in working condition. The car is missing one interior door handle, one small piece of wood trim over the left rear armrest, the jack, the S3 trunk emblem, the taillight lenses and the hood ornament. It is unknown if any other pieces are missing, but it is believed that the car is largely complete. One of the spot lights has a crack. The driver’s door armrest and one compartment cover are off the car, but are included, see photo. The Bentley S3 and Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III have a lower grill and are considered by many to be sportier and are much more sought after than the earlier series one and two cars. If you look at collector price guides, (such as Hagerty), for a 1963 Bentley S3, you will see that series three cars command a huge premium in value over the series one and two cars. Therefore, it may be more worthwhile to restore a series 3 car all things considered. This Bentley is a magnificent and impressive car and once restored should yield a great deal of satisfaction to the owner. Returns are not accepted for this item.
