Vehicle Detail

Very nice original and one owner 1973 Mustang Convertible. The car has been located here in the CT area since new. The car comes with a CT registration and bill of sale signed by the original owner. The car is being sold without reserve and is being advertised elsewhere so I do reserve the right to end the auction early either for a buy it now or if sold through another avenue. This is an incredible car with the best documented history I've ever seen on a Mustang. The file that comes with the car is incredible. Let's start at the beginning: On June 10th, 1973, Robert Sharp walked into Notarantonio Brothers of North Providence, RI and asked to trade in his 1969 Chevrolet Impala on a brand new 1973 Ford Mustang. The sticker price on the car $3,795.58. After an allowance of $1155.58 on the Impala, a balance due of $2,640 was due on the new convertible. After taxes and registration fees, the total due was $2,776.50. Mr. Sharp was able to finance that amount at 10.33% interest annually through Citizens Bank and paid $90.07 monthly for the next three years until he owned the car outright. On June 16th, he took delivery of the Mustang and said goodbye to his Impala. Unusual for the time, Mr. Sharp bought the car off the showroom floor. In this era, the typical manner for buying a new car was ordering it and waiting eight weeks for the car. Mr. Sharp wanted the car immediately and paid full sticker for the car on display. Included with the car are the original order sheet from the dealership and original finance paperwork from Citizens Bank. The car he took delivery of had the following options and features: 302 cubic inch V-8 enginePower front disc brakesPower convertible topColor keyed carpeting and vinyl seatsCruise-O-Matic automatic transmission'Power steeringDeluxe bumpersAM radioWheel covers The original production sheet along with a copy are included in the sale. I've also ordered a Deluxe Marti Report to accompany the car for the new owner. Mr. Sharp took the car home on June 16th, 1973 to his house at 1624 Smith Street in Providence. He would drive the car for the rest of his life and eventually pass it on to his son who lived in Rockville, CT. Mr. Sharp was very excited about his new Mustang. So much so, he purchased a new log book for the car on June 16th, the very day he took delivery. The car had 3.9 miles on the clock when he picked it up. He noted the miles, engine, points and plug gaps as well as the tire size in his first log book entry. The diary with the car is amazing. Mr. Sharp cared for this car like he would a child with every service noted and all oil and other normal maintenance items performed on or before schedule. Every September, he would do a major maintenance and pull the car off the road until late March or early April when he would revive the car and continue their journey together. Pages and pages of details including a repaint and repairs all done to very good standards. It was likely a momentous day on October 26th, 1992 when the car had 131,815.2 miles on the clock: Mr. Sharp joined the Mustang Club of America becoming member number 27347 according to the diary. The time off the road became longer and longer as Mr. Sharp worried about winters and rust in the northeast, but the old Mustang never failed to start when it was time to bring her back. Also, few, if any notes exist showing breakdowns as Mr. Sharp was always on top of maintenance and always had a stash of correct NOS parts in his garage. Another significant entry was on May 10th, 1993...just one month shy of his 20th anniversary with the car. He would pay $4,964.68 to have the car repainted and new carpeting installed along with a new boot and some rust repair. This was nearly 35% more than he paid for the car new. There was 131,830 miles on the clock. In August of 1994, the front Mustang emblem was stolen. According to the diary, it was 'mysteriously returned' some time later. The car had approximately 135,000 miles on her. On July 19th, 1997, Mr. Sharp added a front license plate surround as the State of Connecticut started requiring all cars to have both front and rear license plates. The car spent more and more time carefully garaged and less time on the road as Father Time transformed from the Mustang from a used car into a collectible car. The last log entry was on May 22nd, 1998 when he took the car for a drive on route 6 in CT through Colchester and Brooklyn, CT. It was lunch time. He continued to drive the car as the miles are now over 200,000. The car was last registered in 2002 and his widow reported that the maintenance continued to the day the car was parked for good. When I took the car out of the garage a month ago, i changed the oil and put fresh gas in. I purchased a new battery, installed a correct replacement fuel pump and starter relay. She started on the first try...just like she did every time after her annual winter slumber for Mr. Sharp. The car is a remarkably well maintained car. The body is good with no major dents and absolutely no rust with the exception of the passenger side door bottom where there is a line of rust from end to end. The quarters are solid. The drivers side door has a very small circle of rust right on the lower right corner...about the size of a quarter. The paint is very shiny and matches what was original sprayed from the factory. The interior is mostly original (and I would have actually offered it as being original if not for the log entry that indicated newer carpeting). The seats are good with wear on the drivers seat and a tear in the drivers side rear seat bottom. The dash and instruments are all original and very nice. The original vinyl dash has no tears or cracks. The car has aftermarket Mustang floor mats. The top is either original or a very old replacement and needs to be replaced. It has two large tears in it. The top motors work perfectly! The engine bay is tidy but has never been detailed. It has a new battery and the alternator works. The engine has good strong compression and absolutely no knocking sounds or any other concerning sounds. The trunk is a mess but rust free. Mr. Sharp accumulated parts for this car and the trunk is full of them. The trunk floor is solid. The undercarriage is also very solid with lots of surface rust but no apparent cancerous rust or rust holes. the exhaust system is good and the car runs quietly. When I pulled the car and rehabbed it, I did not do the brakes or suspension. Both seem to function well with the little bit of driving I've done in the car but I strongly recommend a full safety inspection and maintenance if you intend on driving this car longer distances. It is being sold as is. It has a very well known and clear history. The diary is a joy to read, you can relive the life of this very car. Summary: The car can be a great driver as is. It would require substantial cosmetic work to be a show car. It has a great history and no negative history. The 200,000 miles are believed original but as per CT law, the car has to be sold 'Odometer in excess of mechanical limits'. Other items included in the sale:Five volume set of original 1973 Ford shop service manuals. These are originals and not reprints and have been with the car since new.The aforementioned Marti Report. The original ownership manual for this car.A file of receipts showing work done on this car.The diary. All of the original purchase and loan documents. The original and copy of the original invoice.
