Vehicle Detail
This is a pretty cool find....its a 1958 Chevy Impala..built in Van Nuys and never left California. Its been off the road since the late 70s early 80s sitting in a farm in central California. The custom stuff was done about 1959-61 or so..and was never altered. Many times old customs evolved with time and their original style was lost...this car was customized and frozen in that 1959-61 or so style...I think the car was in a little magazine too..but am researching that. I think the car was customized by Barris but cant prove it yet...an acquaintance of of mine works for Barris and he showed George pictures of the car and he remembered it..but nothing in detail. I found Ray Strappazon's '58 Impala on a website called Kustomrama...and it has the same taillights and side scoop job this car has...and that car was built by Barris for sure. The lake pipe treatment is also something they were doing. All of the custom work looks to be done in lead and has that very early 60s feel for sure. AMT used the taillight treatment this car has in their custom parts kit in their 1/25 1958 Impala kit. I was told that AMT asked the original owner of this car for permission to do that...but of course its heresay.. Overall needs everything...no engine or trans..was a 283 powerglide car..rolls and steers just fine...tires hold air for transport. Has cool early 60s custom hubcaps. Missing the seats and a few moldings for sure. If you dont see it in the pictures..I dont have it. Vin and trim tags are present. Car was originally Honey Beige and you can still see that in many spots. Dash top appears to have been metalflake at some point. There are spots in the floor pans with rust through..but the floors are mostly there with surface rust. Trunk pan needs replacing and has rust through in the weatherstrip channel too. Trunk lid needs work and might be easier to just replace it. Since it was sitting in a farm..there was a lot of silt type dirt in and on the car...this led to all the weird rust spots the car has...the roof scoop and some places where a piece of trim was held moisture and got rusty. Frame is solid and there arent any structural issues with the car..look at the pics carefully...it needs alot of patching..but its worth saving for sure. Great for the guy or gal that can do their own metalwork. Door bottoms are rusty...but there are good points. Underhood looks decent..frame is fine...and the car was never in an accident as far as I can tell. Needs body work and be brought back...front crossmember will need straigtening as it looks like they ran into something when they were driving it. Also looks to have had hydraulics way back..so upper a arms can easily be replaced and the frame will need a little patching there... It will need a full restoration but it is a one year only body style and neat looking car. Will need all side glass. Check out the picture of the Cal Custom style solenoid in the drivers door ...commonly used back then to operate the latch when the doors were shaved. Please ask as many questions as you like... If you are an international bidder you will need to contact me first to be cleared to bid.. Car can possibly be exported..since it doesnt have an engine and trans without a title? If you are international please check that out before you bid. Has a DMV application for duplicate title form...can deliver it to a local shipping outfit for $100 TERMS: Full payment is to be in hand within 3 days of auction close. Your bid means you bought it ..period. If you want to come look at it before you bid...please do so. Car is listed elsewhere for sale and auction might end at any time. I decide manner of payment...ok?International bidders will probably be by wire transfer or cash if you have a local agent. US buyers will probably be US postal money orders or cash if you are picking it up in person.
