Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is not one, but two classic Suzuki GT750 J's plus tons of hard to find parts. I purchased these and a few other later water buffaloes from a kind elderly gentleman who had collected GT's and parts for years. The bikes are beautiful classics and great road bikes I appreciate them immensely but it's time to let them go to a real vintage Suzuki enthusiast who can take them to the next level. Both bikes have titles, and interestingly the lavender bike was owned by bike legend Craig Vetter. Pink GT- Frame #30299, Engine #30425. I found this late production '72 palletized, covered, and forklifted 15' in the air onto industrial shelving in a heated pole barn. All I could see was the front drum peaking out, but the elderly gentleman told me he bought it from Craig Vetter. As a vintage bike guy, I was excited to say the least! Got this bike and the others home and it was apparent that this one had not been on the road for at least 25 years or more. It still had a California plate with a 1979 sticker on it which goes to the winning bidder. The carbs and air box were in a cardboard box, the petcock was off the tank, the tires were dry rotted, exhaust system was off, etc. I was hopeful it would run because the old man was a retired machinist who had put marvel mystery oil down the cylinders and sealed the intake and exhaust ports. The title I received, which I photocopied and laminated, was dated in the '70's and in Vetter Industries' name. This color copy of the pink slip goes with the bike in addition to the current Illinois title in my name. I cleaned out the tank, rebuild the petcock and replaced it's diaphragm, replaced the coolant, rebuilt the carbs and cable synced them, went through the oiling system, cleaned the exhaust baffles, replaced the plugs, adjusted the brakes (kinda), replaced the fuel lines, put a new gel battery in it, put new dunlops on it, new chain, and 20w50 trans oil. It started on the 3rd friggin kick and sounded strong! I didn't even mess with the points. (the bike comes with 3 new contact points though). The bike runs well, accelerates good, shifts through the gears, and stops ok. If a true GT expert made some adjustments and gave it some TLC it would probably run/ stop like new. As stated, I haven't replaced the points or even put a timing light on the thing, and I have only roughly adjusted the idle because I got the piss knocked out of me by a plug lead trying to do it as the manual states! Needless to say the coils are good. Though it is very honest, the pink bike is far from a perfect concours machine. It does have some patina. The tank has a couple small dings and one decent sized dent behind the fork. I believe the front fender is from a later GT750 as well. All the electrics but the turn signals work. I am confident that the bike retains it's original engine. I sold a clean '74 GT750 that I also received in the sale to a good friend of mine who is a two stroke expert. We both agree that this pink bike is the stronger running of the two. Oh yeah, a nice early Suzuki GT750 shop manual comes with the bike in addition to a Clymer! Black GT (Originally Blue) Frame #21807 Engine #21550 This mid production J is one nice, nice parts bike. Looks to have a Honda disc on the front unfortunately. I believe it has it's original triple that spins free and has good compression. A strange gauge bracket was fabricated at some point, probably to clear a windjammer or something. I believe one of the gauge lenses is cracked but they are the correct plastic housed gauges. The exhaust system is pretty nice but one has part of a baffle stuck in it and all of the cones are missing. The rear drum is correct for a J. No early headlight shell. Seat pan is nice but the vinyl cover is shot. Have all three early carbs but one float bowl is broke. Airbox is there. Oil tank is not. No side covers or radiator plastic. Thats about it. I'd say its 90% complete. Not a terrible starting point for a resto. Parts I have so many extras that its best to just look at the pictures. There are more coffee cans full of hardware that I didn't take out of the garage that also go with the bikes. Notable items as follows: Tons of NOS rubber bits. NOS cables. An extra early speedo and temp gauge. Electrical bits. A super nice later fender. An extra radiator. Early radiator guard. Extra early rear drum with no script. A powder coated swing arm. Extra exhaust clamps, Gaskets/ Seals. Two early side cover badges. Two early petcocks. There are a few later GT parts as well. I could make a small fortune if I had a desire to list all this stuff in separate auctions but one lucky guy is going to take it all because I dont have the patience to separate it all. I am listing these bikes and parts with a starting bid of 5 bucks and no reserve. I reserve the right to end the auction if I feel like it. Feel free to ask legitimate questions, but do me a favor and please do not bombard me with offers to end the auction early or separate items. I don't want to deal with shipping the bikes, but I am more than happy to store them for up to a month until the winning bidder can get to central Illinois to pick them up. Thanks for your interest and happy bidding. On Jul-09-14 at 06:55:55 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for everyone's interest in the bike. I have received numerous emails requesting a "buy it now" price but I plan to let the auction go to the end. On Jul-11-14 at 10:55:28 PDT, seller added the following information: After receiving many emails regarding shipping of the bikes and parts domestically and abroad, I have decided to make some changes to the payment and shipping methods I accept. In addition to local pickup and payment, I will allow for an independent shipping company/ buddy to pick up the parts and bikes, at the winning bidders expense and arrangement, from my residence, at a time that works well for me. I will not be taking time off work to deal old motorcycles. I will not box up and ship the parts separately, so your shipper will have to deal with parts too. I will also accept Paypal in addition to cash or cashiers check as a form of electronic payment for the items to facilitate this method of purchase. That said, I will be paid IN FULL before anything leaves my garage. As soon as it rides off into the sunset my liability for the bikes/ parts ends. I am an honest eBay member with 100% feedback, so rest assured, everything you see in the pictures (and then some) will go with your shipper. If you don't receive something, call him, not me. Thanks.
