Vehicle Detail

1954 BMW R67/2 This is a very nice very original unmolested 1954 BMW R67/2 motorcycle. It is unrestored and in outstanding condition for its age. It is a triple matching numbers bike (headstock badge, frame and engine). It was originally purchased by a GI in Germany (I have the original title for it issued by the US Army in 1954!). It was imported into the US in 1968 (I have the original shipping docs). It changed hands again in 1972 and again in 1982 (I have some original and some copies of titles and registration docs from those years). It does not appear to have ever been street registered from the 1982 date. I bought it many years ago from the estate of this last owner/collector. After I bought it, I put it into dry storage (heated and cooled) here in the desert thinking I would get to it “later”. I’ve now reached “later” and am now downsizing my collection (just too many motorcycles to take care of). After a full fluid change (straight 40wt all around), lube, etc., it got a new condenser, points cleaned, timing checked, carbs and gas tank cleaned and petcock rebuilt. I also installed a new small 6v gel battery (it may not look original but these work way better than the repro lead-acid batteries!). The bike started on the third kick out of storage! I have put about 100 miles on it since, and it typically starts first or second kick, and the engine is super quiet. The bike runs and rides exceptionally nicely. Trans is quiet and shifts well, and the clutch works well and is extremely smooth acting. Rear end is a solo 32/9 with the later version aluminum cover over the driveshaft U-joint. No drips, leaks or other nasties from the running gear other than the trans occasionally has a drip from the bottom bolt that holds the brake return spring. Spark plug caps are original BMW marked with no cracks or other issues (they repop them now, but try finding an original set!). This is a really nicely running original motorcycle. The bike is a very late 1954 as the frame serial number is on the headstock and not on the rear portion of the frame near the left rear shock (see pics) like the earlier plunger bikes. The original headstock badge is in outstanding condition. The original paint and body work are generally in excellent condition for their age. There is a bit of oxidation here and there, a small ding in the gas tank just to the right hand side of the gas cap, and there is a small paint repair/scratch on the back rear section of the front fender (see pics) – all part of the age, history and patina of this very original bike. The original red liner on the inside of the gas tank is in excellent condition. The gas cap is an original Blau (no dents) and I recently rebuilt the original Everbest petcock. The original pin stripper’s initials are still on the bottom of the gas tank. The inside of the tool box is very nice with some wear marks and scratches, but no rust. The top of the tool box door is a bit scratched and the paint on it is just fair. Looks like the rear fender had a rack at one time and the original small tail light was replaced also replaced at some point with a later model coffee can type (that’s how it came to me). The rear fender still has its original dealer fender medallion and the hinge looks to be in good condition. Nice original Pagusa seat and spring assembly with no rips or tears. Forks and handlebar controls are very nice but the handlebars have a few scrathes in places (see pics). The bike still has the original unobtanium fork boot clamps. One fork boot has a tear in it and both are likely to need replacement if the bike is ridden regularly. Wheels are original with original Weinmann low lip aluminum rims (very nice condition). The plating on the original spokes has seen better days and it has really “interesting” “period” wheel weights (left them on for fun). The original wheel bearing retainers (small pin wrench holes) are in excellent shape. Tires are old but serviceable - I would at least put in new tubes if I was to ride it any distance. The hardware (nuts, bolts, etc.) on the bike is original and in excellent condition – mostly Ribe and NSF bolt head markings (there may be a bolt or two that is not original, but I did not see any). It still has the original stamped steel cable guides on the front end for front brake, throttle, clutch and speedo cables and wiring harness (originals are unobtainium!), and most of the metal tie straps that hold the original wire harness and cables are still in place. The wire harness is in good condition, and all of the lights and brake light switch work as they should. It has the proper “dished” headlight shell with script “Bosch” lens, and Bosch marked headlight rim, correct Bosch HO/FDF 6/3 horn with nice emblem, etc. Generator generates and generator and neutral lights work. The speedometer was broken when I got the bike and was recently rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedometer. I had them set it to the ileage that was on it when it came to me. While I have no idea if the mileage is correct the bike is clearly a low mileage example given all of the other indicators – looks like the original clutch cable because it is still attached by the original metal tie, minimal wear on the brake pedal, etc. Comes with the original fork lock and key, tool box key and ignition “key”. If you are looking for a very nice original plunger bike to enjoy, this one is about as nice as you are likely to find. It is not a new bike or a bike that has been restored from top to bottom; so please, if you really want a fully restored trailer queen, buy one (not this one). Please don’t restore this one! What you see is what you get. This is a very nice motorcycle, but that said, it is a USED motorcycle. It is sold as is where is with NO warranty, NO guaranty or any other kind of ”–ty”. The motorcycle has an Arizona title in my name with no liens so no issues there. If you have questions email me at wallaman@cox.net or call me at 602-three seven three-1514. I’m in Arizona and we’re on California time now (no daylight savings time here). I will facilitate shipping, but Buyer must make arrangements for pick up.
