Vehicle Detail
This 1972 Mercedes 280 SEL is a Southern car (in Louisiana most of its life) and has never seen salt or snow. There is virtually zero rust on this car. The interior is outstanding, with no rips in the seats, except for a slit in the armrest in the back. This is the last of the handmade Mercedes vehicles, and the doors close with a resounding "thunk," reminding you that this is a luxury vehicle built like a tank. The car comes in a rare two-tone green/cream color scheme. Everywhere we go, people tell us how much they like the car. The car has been in storage since November, and it is smoking a bit on start-up. A mechanic has informed me that the issue is likely with the valve stem seals, which have probably dried out a bit and allow a little engine oil to seep into the chambers, causing the smoke. The smoking subsides once the car is warmed up. The car operates at a normal temperature, so it's not a head gasket issue. Also, the car started up without a jump when I started it last week (after seven months in storage!), which should give you some confidence in its mechanical condition. It's a great car for someone willing to invest a little to fix this issue.
