Vehicle Detail
1954 Chevrolet 6400 2-ton Flatbed. RUNS and DRIVES. Tilt bed with PTO tilt--dump truck. Possibly Chevrolet's best engine ever made--JobMaster 261 cubic inch 6-cylinder (see article by Jim Carter at jimcartertruckparts/Articles/261-Engine.) 4-speed transmission--ALL GEARS DRIVE with 2-speed rear differential, dual-suspension. 5-window cab with original green paint. The 13' 3" by 8-foot flat bed is a dump bed and wood is great shape, which was built in Portland for the new truck and is heavy duty solid. This truck is an eastern Oregon Farm Truck where there is almost no humidity so none to very little rust--NO CANCER in any of the corners, floor board--none. Eastern Oregon was one of best places for this truck. The truck was still running on the farm. Since I bought it, I have it stored under cover and really enjoyed working on it. I spent a lot of time cleaning it up, then removed the head and had it inspected--flat and no issues from local machine shop. I had new valves installed by the machine shop. I rebuilt the carburetor, new battery, new coil, wires, cap, rotor, plugs, etc. The 261 starts every time and the truck runs and drives great. I have driven it around the neighborhood a few times. PTO operates and tilts the bed. Brake system is complete with hydro-vac. Master cylinder is rebuilt, but system needs to be bled and inspected for operation. I am using the hand brake to stop the truck, so it is not good for regular street driving until the brakes are bled and perhaps wheel cylinders replaced. Front pads are thin but complete; rear brake pads are thick. The Hand brake has drum on driveshaft with two brake pads and stops the truck. Body is complete and in great shape. A dent on the back of the cab against the flatbed and the doors need to be adjusted to close properly. no holes in the floor boards and no visible rust at the bottom corners Corner curved windows and back windows are complete and no cracks. Windshield is good with no cracks. I even tried the windshield wipers--they move slow, but operate. Door windows need to be replaced. I heard this same cab is used as a 1/2 ton, 1 ton, 1 1/2 ton and 2 ton and the cab alone is worth $2000...and the bed is worth $1000 alone. The fenders and hood and grill are larger than the smaller 1/2 and 3/4 ton. See cast number on head that confirms 261 cc. Also, see picture of temperature gauge--truck has no overheating problem...and, has started every time. Also, I have the title--it is a clean title and it is in my name. Update: I updated some pictures so you can see that it drives. I will work with you on transportation/shipping arrangements. Update on July 1, 2014: When I decided to sell the truck, a knowledgable friend said I should take no less than $2500, and that was a bargain. I previously had bids up to $2000, which did not meet the reserve. This is likely the last time that I will list. It can be stored, but someone should continue the restoration. A few humdred to a thousand will make this a nice parade truck or classic car carrier; or a couple/few thousand could make this an beatiful original classic; or, it can be directly put onto the farm for operation. To get this in your driveway for anything less than $5k (including shipping) seems like a bargain. I will work with you on transportation, shipping, or short-term storage arrangements. Any questions, just ask. On Jul-03-14 at 08:47:14 PDT, seller added the following information: July 3 update: Reserve lowered to $1800!!! I can store the truck for $40 a month, but it won't be covered and I would really like someone to continue the restoration or put the truck to work. After 6+ months of storage, I will probably need to redo some my previous work, like cleaning the fuel tank, which is something else that was done and I did not mention it the above description (removed and cleaned the fuel tank).
