Vehicle Detail

Classic 1962 Volvo PV544 This car is in great shape considering its age. Has a 4 speed manual transmission. It starts and runs well. I believe 1962 was the first year these cars had a 12 volt electrical system. It is also one of the first years that had the 1800cc engine. Older models had the 1600cc which were whimpy and had problems. There is very little rust on this car except for some surface rust on the bumpers and a couple of other areas. There is no place on the car that would need to be patched because of rust. The interior could use some upholstery work. There have been three mechanical modifications that have greatly increased the usability of the car. 1. The original carburetors were replaced by a Weber 2 bbl carburetor. This does not change the performance, but it simplifies maintenance. The original SU dual single barrel carburetors were difficult to tune, and they operated so different than any other makes that most shops would refuse to touch them. The Weber is a standard type carburetor that are well known and proven to be dependable. 2. The points type ignition system was replaced by a Crane electronic ignition. No more points to replace! And there was a definite improvement of performance. 3. A kit was installed that replaced the original whimpy generator with a modern alternator. This made all the lights brighter and kept the battery well charged. The car has been registered for the last few years as "non-operational." This was the only way to keep it registered without buying insurance for it. Since it wasn't being used we didn't want to pay for insurance. We paid the registration fee every year, but with this type of registration you don't get a sticker to put on the license plate. The new owner just has to take the signed ownership certificate to the DMV to change title and tell them that they want it to be operational again. This car is exempt from smog regulations in California, because of its age. This car has the original black California license plates that were issued to it in 1962. Although the car has not been regularly driven for the last 3 or 4 years, we always started it up on a regular basis. I drove it around the neighborhood the other day and it drove ok, but it probably needs a tune up and a couple of parts oiled from not being driven. The odometer has turned over at some point. So the actual mileage is 160,310. If you live locally, and want to see the car, just send me a message and we will meet. If you win the auction, you will need to send a Paypal deposit of $500 at the end of the auction. The balance will need to be paid in cash or cashiers check, when you pick up the car. On Jun-28-14 at 16:09:59 PDT, seller added the following information: Just noticed that the gas gauge is stuck on full, even when there is very little gas in the tank. This was not happening while the vehicle was in use, so I suppose it started from sitting for a while. Since I didn't notice this until after the auction started I will give a $50 discount off the final amount. It will probably be easily fixed by tapping the sender unit to loosen it up, but I can't say for sure.
