1949 Mercury 4 dr. sedan- A really fine old car priced right! 　This is not a show car but probably has a better drive train than most show cars. The long time owner was a perfectionist caliber mechanic, machinist and electronic repair man. The deceased owner purchased this vehicle in 1988 when it only had 70,000 miles on it. Having retired at a young age he began repairing all of the mechanics, including rebuilding the original motor which he installed around 1993. The car has been driven 18,000 miles since then and was used primarily to attend national Early Ford V8 club events and local Ford V8 tours. Trips included Canada, and Bend Oregon with no overheating, vapor lock or any other problems experienced by show cars driven on the required meet tour. Sadly, the owner passed away a few years ago with the car having 88,000 miles on it, and the car has sat neglected in his shop garage until June 2, 2014 when a new battery was installed and the engine once again purred the way only a Flathead Ford can. Old gas was drained from the tank and fresh gas has been installed. There is an electric fuel pump and new gas line filter in the rear next to the gas tank. A new master cylinder has also been installed, and the brakes works fine with a good pedal height. It is currently California registered and was kept registered and insured during the non used period. The car drives very nicely and is a very comfortable ride. It has a nice quiet dual exhaust system. Also has full flow oil system using expensive synthetic 5/50 oil Oil pressure is 60 pounds . The original rebuilt V8 engine ran cool while we drove it 19 miles to my location on a 107 degree day in order for prospective buyers to inspect. The interior upholstery is very nice. It does not have power steering nor does it have air condition or power brakes. It has a manual transmission with a fine performing overdrive. The paint job is old, but acceptable (depending on your opinion) but a new paint job would enhance this car as it is worthy of the expense. The two side view mirror chrome shows signs of their 65 year age but the mirror part is fine. The car is straight & not a rust bucket in any regard. The driver side rear quarter window should have new rubber installed. The passenger side front window is acceptable as is but is slightly flawed at the bottom. I have not been able to make the radio work, but it does have a tape deck in the glove box. It also has a CB radio neatly placed under the dash. It has an updated ignition system likely made by the owner. The car has a new six volt battery with a converter to work the 12 volt items. The car has one new tire and three 15 year old tires on the ground having 18,000 miles of use with much tread remaining The engine exhaust does not smoke. The radiator & hoses are fine. All the gauges work (and look like new) as do the turn signals, headlights, & brake lights. In addition to an overdrive, there is also cruise control which I have not tested yet. The interior is nice and clean as is the trunk.You will enjoy driving this old Mercury! The resrve is very low for a car of this caliber. International buyers are welcome but will need to make their own transport arrangements. Payment is expected by bank to bank wire transfer unless arrangements are made with the owner prior to end of auction. The car is available for inspection by appointment. The car is currently registered and after driving it around for a week I feel comfortable in saying you could drive it across country as is. I had it on a lift recently for a good look under the car and it is solid per the mechanic who checked it out with me.
