Vehicle Detail

You are looking at a 1986 Honda Goldwing Interstate - a GL1200. The bike is in excellent condition. If you are looking for an economical and reliable way to get out on the road this summer - this is the bike for you. I purchased it last fall from a gent who had it in storage for the last several years. I bought it with the intention of riding it for the next several years although am now having an affair with a GL1500 and the 1200 is jealous and has demanded a divorce - it wants to go live with someone (maybe you?) who will treat it as the #1 motorcycle in their life (sadly - no longer me). The overall condition is excellent (it runs as good as it looks). High points of the bike: a) Motor - excellent condition. Recently I did a compression check on it - 150 PSI on all cylinders (75K miles is very low for a Goldwing)b) Tires - brand new - have less than 200 miles on themc) Brakes - brake pads are brand new; brake lines are brand new (red braided steel - very sexy); calipers have been cleaned and rebuilt; master cylinder controlling rear and right front rebuilt; all brake fluid replacedd) Clutch - fluid replaced and control master cylinder rebuilte) Timing belts and hoses replaced in February of this yearf) All fluids (oil; filter; coolant; brake fluid) replacedg) Stereo replaced with modern unit (JVC R338)h) I have the original owner's manual (pictured)i) Cleaned out and replaced the front fork oil (more on this below)J) The paint is in very good condition with a few scratches. There is a spot larger than a silver dollar on the front fender where the paint chipped off. I tried to patch it with touch up paint (which I will include) although it does not look real smooth.k) The rear shocks are replacement/progressive shocks (they replace the original, air-assisted shocks) It has a current VA safety inspection - completed last month - May, 2014. It is literally ready to ride for a long time starting today. A few warts that it does have (what older lady has no warts??): a) One of the highway pegs (on the motor crash bars) is missing the very end (I have the missing piece - I knocked it off when I loaded on a trailer recently). Peg still works - just looks bad. If you (or a friend) can weld aluminum it is an easy fixb) The horn button is missing. The horn works - just the little button which protrudes decided to go love another at some pointc) One of the front forks/shocks seeps a little oil when it sits on the center stand for several hours (in this configuration considerable, static weight is on the front end). I have the set of replacement seals to solve the problem along with a replacement set of progressive springs for the front end (these springs negate the need to have air pressure in the front end) - I have simply run out of time to work on the bike. If you are handy this is a relatively easy week night or weekend repair.d) When it sits for about a week it leaks a little oil into the cylinders (I think it is the valve seals leaking slightly). I believe this is because the motor sat for a few years before I bought it. I have not tried any sort of seal conditioner or oil treatment for this. It does not happen when the motor is running and/or when it is ridden frequently. It is also possible that this will get better with consistent use. Again, does not change the way it runs (strong) so I have not done anything about it.e) I believe the windscreen/windshield is the original one (if not - it is certainly OEM). It has some scratches in it and is not perfectly clear (prob a 8 or 9 out of 10 on the clear scale). I am a bit taller and when I ride I look over the screen so it is no problem for me. If you are shorter (or have a shorter torso) you might consider a replacement (normally it is fine although if the sun or headlights hit it right the scratches are a distraction). That is it... the bike is all it appears to be - a really nice (and nice looking) example of a Honda GL1200. If you have any questions please ask. Also, I have it for sale locally so, I reserve the right to end the auction early. Thus, if you want it, you know what to do (hint: hit buy it now)....
