Vehicle Detail
2002 VW Eurovan. Just over 101,500 miles. No Engine. The engine had a timing chain issue. Engine is disassembled and is not with the vehicle. All components that were removed from the engine to remove it are with the van. That includes the axles, all brackets, and the 6 individual coil packs, etc.. The a/c compressor and power steering pump are still connected and are hanging in the engine compartment. The Van has a clean Maryland title in my name. The van passed Maryland safety inspection just before the engine suffered it’s problem. The van has not been off of the road long. The van has new tie rod ends and lower ball joints. The transmission was functioning properly with no signs of any problems. It was serviced just before the van had it’s issue. It has had the internal filter changed, new pan gasket, and was filled with Red Line Trans fluid. The van has heated seats, but the passenger seat heating element is damaged and it disconnected. The Van has a factory sunroof, But it is not functioning properly, it appears to need a new motor. The sunroof does not leak. The van has functioning factory for lights. The body is in good shape. It has a bit of rust on the fuel filler door, But I have a replacement fuel filler door which is included with the van. I also have a good used passenger headlight assembly which is included with the van. There is a small dent / scuff on the drivers quarter panel, It was my intention to have it repaired, but that was before the van suffered it’s problem. More pictures available if requested. Local pick-up is preferred, It could be shipped, but it is obviously not drivable, and that may make shipping difficult. Thanks for looking. I do have the engine, the head, and all the other related parts. It is at my local VW shop, which i also work at from time to time. The engine has been disassembled. I was going to rebuild it. I have since decided not to because I have other vehicles I need to maintain and do not have the budget to properly rebuild this engine at this time. The block appears to have worn to the point that it needs to be bored and replacement over size pistons are required. The actual cylinders are clean and smooth, but at the top of the piston stroke there is a bit of a “step” worn into the cylinders. Also the crank had one bearing that was going bad and it has damaged the crankshaft. I however have obtained a good used crankshaft and a set of good connecting rods. I do not think the previous owner changed the oil at proper intervals . I also have already purchased a quality engine gasket set, new head bolts, timing chains, and timing chain tensioners, which I may try to return to the vendor are sell or just hold on to until someone needs them. My shop may have returned some of the these items already, but I don’t think they have. I will need to check to see what new parts are still there. So basically the engine is completely apart and is in plastic tubs and the block and head are also apart. It may be easier to find another used engine. I fairly often see Eurovans selling that need transmissions. It seems Eurovans either came with a good transmission or a flawed one which didn’t last with out problems, usually it seems that if the van made it to about 80,000 miles then the transmission was a good one and would last with proper maintenance. Typically these Eurovan engines do not end up in this condition. I feel it is the fault of the previous owner and and their dishonesty regarding the condition of this Eurovan. I bought this van on Ebay and flew to Dayton , Ohio and drove it back. Initially I didn’t have the extra money to put it on the road and it sat for about 2 months at my house, Then I spent the money to get it on the road. It was then I realized that something was going on with the engine. My loss. Thanks. Please Note: I recently shipped a small Saab auto part through Ebay and it unfortunately got lost in shipping, I have never had this happen before. I quickly gave the buyer a full refund and he still left me a negative feedback. I’ve been a Ebay uses since 1999 and have always been 100%. This has upset me, but there is nothing I can do about it. Thank You.
