Vehicle Detail
Hi, My name is Alex and I have regretfully decided to part ways with my Legend coupe that I've been happily driving since 1999. I purchased the car in 1999 from Columbus Acura in Ohio with roughly 40k miles on it. I am the second owner of the vehicle and have put the entire balance of the mileage (roughly 210k) on the car myself. She's been a great car for me and is still really fun to drive. I've basically handled all the routine work (brakes, fluid changes, timing belt, ball joints, etc.) since I've owned it. Overall, the car has been very good to me and I'm sad to see her go. While the car runs fairly well, she needs some maintenance that I simply do not have the time to do myself. I hope the car will end up with someone who can perform the maintenance and see the odometer rollover at least another 100k! Ok enough blubbering.... here's the good, the bad, and the ugly. The GOOD:The car has been and still is very reliable. Always starts right up and gets me where I need to go without any problems.Overall the body is in decent shape - some light rust under lip of hood and trunk and just a bit above the rear driver's side wheel well.Engine and transmission still as strong as the day I bought it.Brand new leather seats (front). I have the leather for the rear seat but never replaced it as the original leather here is still in decent shape. Most suspension joints/control arms have been replaced (I can provide a detailed list later).Brand new front tires (less than 2 weeks old) and 4-wheel alignment (over $300 value). Rear tires still have ~15-20K life left. The BAD:No A/C. There is a refrigerant leak somewhere in the system that developed a few years back. This is really only a minor inconvenience since July/August are the only appreciably hot months here in the north east. Some oil leakage from under the engine. May be weeping from or past a crank seal but I really don't know. Also, at idle, oil is visibly burning off in exhaust. Under normal or heavy acceleration the car does not smoke (unless it has been recently idling). I've done some research on this and I've all but confirmed that the rubber seals on the valve stems allow oil from the cam section to seep past the valve stem and into the cylinder. This issue is widely discussed on the Legend forums. The parts are cheap (just need new rubber seals) but the labor is time consuming. It would probably take the average weekend mechanic a couple steady days to do the work. Again, if this is something I had time to do, I would just do it myself. I can provide additional details on where to go for good directions on how to do this repair yourself. The windshield recently cracked. The crack is low and generally not too noticeable. Safe-lite quoted $300 to replace it. I was on the fence about doing it, but it didn't really affect me. Again, a weekend project that can probably be done for much less if you locate a used windshield. The trim/bezel around the radio is cracked but not very noticeable. Used bezels can be found pretty easily. Two of the factory speakers are shot. The good news is the car is already wired with RCA plugs and a beefy power wire to the trunk so you'll have a head start on upgrading the audio system in general. The UGLY:None! This car is beautiful and I'd love to keep it, but at this stage in my life, I just don't have time to personally address some of the car's needs. I believe I've hit all the major points here. Again, someone will end up with a well maintained vehicle (I have kept a detailed list of all maintenance that I've performed) and with a little TLC she will be as faithful to you as she has been to me! Starting this off at $1100 which I think is very reasonable given how well the car has been maintained. On May-16-14 at 12:38:24 PDT, seller added the following information: I apologize for the late posting but I forgot to mention that the "ABS" light has been on since about 2009. It does not affect normal braking operation at all. In my opinion it was not of any real benefit (in wet or icy conditions) even when the ABS was working. I think a skilled driver can slow down a car faster than ABS can in slippery conditions. On May-19-14 at 04:57:57 PDT, seller added the following information: ***NEW*** I've posted a short video clip / test drive so you can see the car in action. SEE THE CAR RUNNING HERE: http://youtu.be/7ZKc8ZpcuQc Thanks!!
