Vehicle Detail
This beautiful 1977 BMW R100RS is a truly a classic BMW Motorcycle. This bike has the original 40 mm. exhaust valves and pipes which were converted to 38 mm in 1978 and all years to follow, making it one of the most powerful air-cooled boxer BMWs ever. I am the third owner of this machine, and I personally knew both of the previous owners. You couldn't ask for a better-taken-care-of machine. The oil has been changed every 500 miles during its life. The odometer reads almost 102,500 miles; however, much of the motorcycle has far fewer miles. Newer 5 spd. gear box (I have the original 4spd. which will be included), clutch, and final drive in the last 10,000 miles by the previous owner. The forks have been refurbished. New Koni Shocks installed a few years ago. The original owner installed an oil-cooler (introduced on later models). A utility socket has been installed (also standard on later models). A fork stabilizer has been installed. The gear shifter has been upgraded to the more stable style used on later models. A pair of /5 fork gators has been added to the machine for a more agressive look. The battery and charging system (alternator [rotor], relays, and points) are new within the past two years. A new reed-type breather valve, air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, and Spiegler brake line were recently installed. The tires have less than 1000 miles on them. The clock is in working condition as are all of the other controls. The bike starts and runs like a sewing machine. No tuning necessary. Valves, points, timing, etc. all adjusted at least once a year since I have owned the machine. There are a few minor - and I do mean minor - surface blemishes on this bike, but I'd have to point them out to you becaue you might not otherwise notice. For a bike that's 37 years old and with 102,000+ miles on it.oeit's throughout the motorycle as you would expect from a 30+ year old machine that has been ridden for 100,000+ miles. The bike is for sale with the solo seat seen in the photos. You could put someone else on - and there are footpegs for that person which came with the bike - but your passenger would need to be relatively small as your crotch will be on the back of the fuel tank. It ain't fun, let me tell you. I do not have the original wheels with the pinstripes. I've seen them every once in awhile on eBay, however, so all is not lost. I am selling this machine becaue I don't rideit enough. This is truly a thrilling machine to ride that is in wonderful working condition and is easy/inexpensive to maintain.
